Dunedin: A man who allegedly went on a stabbing rampage with two knives at a Dunedin supermarket on Monday has been charged with attempting to murder four people.

The 42-year-old was initially scheduled to appear in Dunedin District Court on Tuesday morning, but it’s believed the hearing has been moved to 2.15pm.

Court documents show the man has been charged with attempting to murder four people, two men and two women.

The documents say he is of no fixed abode. They do not list his occupation.

As the assailant was stabbing a man, a person armed with a chair is understood to have helped stop the assault – and a person at the scene said his action may have “saved his life”.

A witness said the attacker called out “witches, witches” when he was held by people on the ground, and said the man had been using small knives.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism

There are various different definitions of terrorism,
with no universal agreement about it.

[4][5]

Terrorism is a charged term.
It is often used with the connotation of something that is "morally wrong".

Governments and non-state groups use the term to abuse or denounce opposing groups.[5][6][7][8][9] Varied political organizations have been accused of using terrorism to achieve their objectives. These include right-wing and left-wing political organizations, nationalist groups, religious groups, revolutionaries and ruling governments.[10] Legislation declaring terrorism a crime has been adopted in many states.[11] When terrorism is perpetrated by nation states, it is not considered terrorism by the state conducting it, making legality a largely grey-area issue.[12] There is no consensus as to whether or not terrorism should be regarded as a war crime.[11][13]

The Global Terrorism Database, maintained by the University of Maryland, College Park, has recorded more than 61,000 incidents of non-state terrorism, resulting in at least 140,000 deaths, between 2000 and 2014.[14]

Yes:

Bible, King James Version
10 matches.

Exod.22

[18] Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

Deut.18

[10] There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

1Sam.15

[23] For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

2Kgs.9

[22] And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

2Chr.33

[6] And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

Mic.5

[12] And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:

Nah.3

[4] Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

Wis.12

Witches are among us—and far more of them than you think.

Today, when people talk about “witches” in this country, they are often talking about members of the pagan movement, a group of perhaps as many as 1 million Americans whose practices draw from a combination of pre-Christian European religions, Western occult and Masonic societies, and forms of witchcraft.

Bloke I saw had a top knot and darker skin - maybe he was a victim or something... just bad reporting... two cops bundled him off fast... looked good... after that South Coast massacre - Aramoana, not the other one - they're armed with M-4s now.. military style.. more firepower than the NZ Navy....

Look for my daughter's creds here.... and her mother's... a family business...

The man who allegedly went on a stabbing rampage in a Dunedin supermarket will keep his identity under wraps until next month.

The 42-year-old appeared in the Dunedin District Court this afternoon facing four charges of attempted murder

after allegedly attacking two staff members and a married couple at the Cumberland St Countdown in the central city yesterday.

    Corrections officer, Countdown staff injured

Emergency services vehicles swiftly flooded the scene and the victims were rushed to the nearby hospital where they remained today.

Three were in a serious but stable state, while one was in a moderate condition.

The defendant, who was also briefly hospitalised before being discharged last night, appeared in the dock wearing a white cover-all garment, bare-footed with a white plaster on his right forearm.

He stood with his head bowed in the dock only looking up when the judge addressed him.

Counsel John Westgate entered no plea on behalf of his client and asked for name suppression to be granted until the next appearance before the High Court in June.

Judge Peter Rollo granted the order and
remanded the man in custody until that date.

He confirmed there was no formal mental-health assessment sought.
