Half of repatriation flight from India unable to board after coronavirus tests
https://www.9news.com.au/national/australians-testing-positive-coronavirus-covid... Quote:Nearly half of the 150 passengers scheduled to leave on the first repatriation flight out of India will not be allowed on the plane due to COVID-19 test results.
Of the planned passenger group, 72 were banned from the flight home to Australia after 48 tested positive for coronavirus.
The other 24 were family members of positive cases and deemed close contacts.
The first repatriation flight is due to leave New Delhi after the ban on returned travellers was lifted today.
The positive diagnoses mean they will be stuck in India until they recover.
Wow... doesn't look like too many "stranded Aussies" will be returning here from India for the foreseeable future, even with the travel ban lifted.
But, the cricketers haven't had a problem, of course.
Australian cricketers set to return from Maldives once India travel ban lifts
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/may/14/australian-cricketers-set-to-retur... Quote:Australia’s Indian Premier League contingent could return home in coming days, with cricket administrators hopeful of getting the green light from the federal government.
The majority of the 38-strong group of IPL players, coaches and commentators are still in the Maldives, having departed India last Thursday on a charter flight.
The IPL contingent is expected to board a charter flight out of the Maldives, potentially as early as this weekend, then land in Sydney and enter NSW’s hotel-quarantine system.
It is not yet clear if the number of hotel quarantine places available to regular Australians wanting to repatriate will be impacted by the cricket cohort’s arrival into the system in NSW.
Well, since it doesn't look like too many others will be returning for a while there should be plenty of hotel quarantine places availiabe for the cricketers.
