Some things I’ve learnt from cruising.

I’ve learnt that....
Even if you are cruising in Australian waters (eg: Moreton Island) your Medicare card, health insurance fund is void, because, once on that ship... it’s regarded at international territory, even if you are still in Australian waters/borders.

I’ve also learnt to go the day before embarking a cruise ship and stay at a motel overnight because of so many things that can go pear shaped on the day of departure with plane delays, traffic accidents (taxi to cruise terminal from airport could be delayed hours) and etc.
I met up with people, in Sydney, turning up on the day by train and said they were nervous they wouldn’t make it.

I’ve learnt I will always get a statesroom with balcony... that fresh ocean air in your room is refreshing, compared to inside cabins.

I dont know how true this is as I have never been on a cruise but
someone I know went on a fairly long cruise and he said there were so many really old people on the ship that every time they docked they had to dump a body or 2 of people who had died on the cruise.

That’s one of the good questions to ask....
Apparently about 200 deaths per every 22 million cruisers per year. Go to about 2 mins 10 secs in vid below.
That... and other good questions answered.

Thought he might have been exaggerating a little.

Maybe a little, but divide 200 deaths into weeks of the year and it’s about a death every couple days rather than a couple deaths per day.
There are more inflight deaths per annum apparently compared to cruising.

Well, that would make sense.

There are more flights in just one day than there are cruises in an entire year.

(pre-covid)

Yes definitely.
So more bodies.
But did you know, at least cruise ships have a freezer for the dead until they reach original port of call, but on a plane, they leave the dead person where they are seated!
That’s freaky!
