Just an aside here - are they all party members?

What do we expect people to think of a country with over a billion people? Hardly any billionaires? If you are going to work people for a few dollars an hour in massive factories or labour-intensive industries, you are going to profit well. It is surprising that China does not have more billionaires or an even greater economy.

Agree. When there’s a population in a country of over 1 billion people, and 1000 are billionaires....that’s a very low percentage compared to the overall population of the country.
Maybe they made their money importing baby food formula from Australia?

The competition for jobs would be immense in China. In Australia, migrants would take jobs driving taxis or manning service stations until they get better jobs. But in China, if they pay you a couple dollars an hour to make shoes, that is what you do. But, atleast the cost of living in not that high. The profit margins for the industries that pay low-income workers must be considerable that you get to see billionaires rising from those industries.

yeh like the only way to become a billionaire in china is listen to whinos advice and flip some properties long the way Cheesy LOL

So your advice to Elon Musk would have been to avoid tech and stick to flipping properties. Where would he be today if he had taken your advice ? Cheesy LOL

Everyone has to start somewhere, and Rhino now has $3mil to decide his next venture.... it’s just the beginning at his point in time, not an end result. I’m certain he will do well with wisdom/experience gained by having taking some decisional risks to get to this point.
Every decision we make, we are at crossroads, which way to go, what journey/rewards/hardships will it bring.
There are those that dare to decide and set forth, and those that remain stuck at the crossroads still trying to decide.

If they're all so prosperous, why would they need to import baby formula?  You'd have thought the great socialist government would ensure that babies were well fed and looked after.... like here - at least here even the poorest get enough to live on - so far...

P.S.  Returning to a rural block.... selling the house and liking the quiet acres.... too many people around you makes a toxic environment .... birds and wildlife welcome, including black snakes....they're OK ... won't bite unless you kick them around... never forgave that areshole next door who killed a blackie for no reason and threw it into our dam .... pig..... dead now I trust... could not happen to a more deserving soul... I wanted his arse for killing that snake.... but the world has its ways...

Yeah I was saying that tongue in cheek re: baby formula, and as you wrote how they are not looking after their own very well and yes, even our poorest/under privileged are looked after okay here...but in a future, these could be looked at as “remember the good old days when people with no work were paid and still fed well”.
I wonder if China ever had that era of people being looked after before they got to over a population of a billion?

Your right.
I have been to China, Fiji, South East Asia, Bangkok, Bali, and impoverished areas are off limits and tourists are shown the nicer parts to spend tourism dollars on... I was told ages ago to give ourselves free time to walk the walk and talk the talk to mingle amongst locals.
There really is a huge rift between well off and impoverished... not much in the middle we call middle class.

Basically, I come away feeling saddened for those people and feel annoyed when others choose to turn a blind eye.
Even in Fiji.... a Fijian woman was talking to me about their hardships and make little money .... I don’t understand the low stated unemployment rate when I was told it was 25% of the country unemployed. (Back in 2000).
So what’s the real figure?

What was a “shameful” thing that happened... as our plane was delayed and our 2 hour taxi ride happened in daylight hours.... when it was supposed to be at night .... so we wouldn’t see how those Fijians really lived.
Tin shacks .... the type of old tin sheds old farmers here, keep their old tractors in.

And little shops/stores all with heavily adorned with iron bars....seems to indicate high crime rate.
I didn’t like it there at all, my friend that invited me seemed so blind and oblivious to it all. I actually felt sick to my stomach.

No wonder they (in those countries mentioned) view us as rich white westerners.

Yes, and while it's understandable that any nation should be rightly ashamed of, or at least embarrassed by, abject poverty, it's unconscionable that the CCP perverts the truth of the peoples' suffering with impunity and voraciously (even blatantly) exploits poverty for political and economic capital... Marx that!

Marx... A dreamer who, in fairness, never lived to see the extent of enslavement his theories inflict on the people he sought to liberate. All he did was establish a tyrant's bible.

Religion: an opiate for the masses? Marxism / communism - amphetamine for the psychopath.

And of Marx's (albeit unintended) victims of his ramble - the rural or impoverished Chinese; what do they make of the CCP's flaunting showcase cities in their face, like Shanghai or Beijing, while they live in destitution, I wonder.

However, all governments can become corrupted and tyrannical when able to rule in the dark; the remedy for which democratic governments must accede to: enforced accountability, and the caveat that the executive leader and their government is neither indispensable nor absolute.

But, in sympathy with the Chinese people, the west has had nearly 250 years of democratic state-crafting.

China has had imperial rule, then military rule followed by descent into the hell that is hardline 'communism'. They have never known government where the supreme leader is not an absolute ruler, hiding behind by the cult of personality and perverted by the myth of indispensability.

And these limits to power can only be sustained by the principles of free speech, the right to protest against the government and a free media.

The refusal to accede to this is a measure of the CCP's cowardice.

Is it messy? Emphatically yes. And you wouldn't want it any other way, given the alternatives.

in china, the media present a strong patriotic message.
everyone in china will be getting the vaccine.
the virus will be wiped out in china.

last night , i was watching our "free media " in australia.
the news headline.....

"was this 80 yo nursing home patient killed by the vaccine.
we report on the death of a woman 2 hours after recieving the vaccine."

now a lot of dumb aussies wont get the vaccine.

many many people will die because of your so called free media.

personally, i would trust Xi's judgement and integrity above that of any of our media.
and that goes double for the ABC.

So that's it?? Chuck in free media for state-controlled totalitarian media over a news item about the possible dangers of a vaccine?

And that thing you've got going in your head with Xi Jinping... Not pretty.

To think, 6 months ago, you were exercising your right to free speech by lecturing us, post after post, that the virus was a F^ck-all.

What happened?

In Australia, we have had 909 (mainly elderly) people die from coronavirus since March last year. Of the 29,000+ Australia that caught the disease, many managed to quarantine for 2 weeks and have recovered back to normal. Some people are still feeling the effects of the virus months onward from their recovery.

You could tell people to take the vaccine or they will die from a disease. Or you could tell people that taking a vaccine will cause them to die. But those that do not take the vaccine will not get so psychosomatic that they "drop like flies" of an imagined disease.

I think the bigger problem will be those out there in the community that do the right thing with masking up, but do the wrong thing by not washing their masks a couple times a week. The amount of build up from bacteria will lead Australia to have a different epidemic of disease come the influenza season. And this year might be a stronger influenza season, regardless of measures.

I detest people who take the best this country has to offer and repay it by denigrating their own country and fellow citizens. If he did this type of thing during wartime he would have been hanged for treason. And rightly so.
