So Bobby, let's break down what happened, again.
The National Education Association had an initiative called "Read Across America Day" for decades there was a big focus on Dr Seuss books in the list of recommended reading.
But in 2017, under President Trump (not that this is important, but you've framed this as "Biden burning books" so it has to be mentioned), the NEA announced it would begin moving in a different direction in favour of promoting diverse children's books.
This also coincided with increasing awareness and discussion of the racist depictions of characters in some of Dr. Seuss' works.
Then on Tuesday, Biden made his proclamation recognising Read Across America Day 2021 like many Presidents before him, but this time he did so without mentioning Dr. Seuss by name.
This was enough to trigger the cry babies at the DailyWire to write a lie-filled piece which pretty much started the right-wing meltdown.
It starts off,
Quote:Oh The Places The Woke Will Go: Dr. Seuss Canceled For ‘Racial Undertones’
A national educators organization is telling schools to avoid reading Dr. Seuss because the children’s books allegedly have “racial undertones.”
For more than 20 years, March 2 has been recognized as Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The reading recognition day was founded by the National Education Association — the nation’s largest labor union — in 1998. This year’s theme is “Create and Celebrate Diversity.”
Learning for Justice — a left-wing educators group — is demanding that Dr. Seuss be canceled. A prominent Virginia school district has taken marching orders and ordered its schools to avoid “connecting Read Across America Day with Dr. Seuss.”
And this lead to claims that the school district banned the books sparking this who "book burning" lie. And of course it's not true.
In a
statement, the School District wrote,
Quote:“Dr. Seuss books have not been banned in Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS),” it says, adding later: “We continue to encourage our young readers to read all types of books that are inclusive, diverse and reflective of our student community, not simply celebrate Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss books have not been banned and are available to students in our libraries and classrooms, however, Dr. Seuss and his books are no longer the emphasis of Read Across America Day in Loudoun County Public Schools.”
So what is classed as burning books in the eye of the right these days?
Well, it seems that if the President doesn't recommend or name your book in his announcement or a reading initiative moves their focus away from books that contain racist depicitons and the publisher of those books decides that they will no longer print them, while all the these books remain in circulation and existing copies can still be purchased, well that's the same as censorship and burning books, as the President banning and burning books!
You dumb flapping idiots.
This is how desperate you are to play the victims.
The books are still available in schools, in libraries and the contents of them on the internet. The publisher has just decided to no longer print them, based on a supply and demand calculation.
If you don't like that then stop militantly pushing your bullshit "free market" rhetoric because clearly decisions you don't like too easily trigger you.
It's pathetic you so desperately need something to be outraged over. You're more easily triggered than the left, especially you Bobby and your only defence seems to be posting the racial stereotype and using racial slurs to push our argument?
Really...?
So the TLDR, No Dr Seuss books have been burned, banned or even taken off the shelves. An educational reading initiative decided to focus less on promoting the Dr Seuss books as part of their "Read Across America Day" and Biden, when making his proclamation recognising the event to help improve literacy skill amongst children also didn't mention Dr Seuss by name. This is because of the racist depictions that are unquestionably in these children's books.
The publisher of the books has decided to stop printing these books for that reason. This has triggered the right who are so hopelessly without direction now that T**** lost the election, the House and the Senate, the biggest loser if you will, so they manufacture this outrage and call this cancel culture gone wild, censorship and book burning, despite that not being the case in the slightest, all lies by the right-wing media to push their culture war angle while looking for their next story and it's gobbled up by the dumbest of their supporters, like Bobby here.
