Did Biden ban the book?

Just about, dear. He'll ban the Bible next, you watch.

Oh, when will it ever end?  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Good post Aqua,
we should never be burning books or banning movies.
This is sounding like 1984 -
changing our history in the ministry of truth.

Did Netflix ban Gone With the Wind?

Just to buy yachts and mistresses?

Oh my, do these capitalists have no morals whatsoever?

The 16th century??? Aristotle's works were lost to the west for nearly 1000 years due to the rise of Christianity and the church fathers seeing nothing in Aristotle but a threat to the supremacy of scriptural texts.

You are confused, ol' Chinaman.

The entire medieval philosophical project (peaking in Thomas Aquinas) was about reconciling Aristotle with Christianity.

It most certainly does. I have absolutely no interest in these neck-stretching tree apes.

Oh, some may view such illustrations as poignant biological observations - the sort of thing screened in nature documentsries and the like, but I find it absolutely appalling.

I mean, what are we teaching our children - to put a bone through their nose and engage in sodomy?

No. It's revolting and not the sort of thing to display in civilised households. If you want to display your collection of shrunken heads and pygmy foetuses, that's your business, but I most certainly will not be visiting your home, and I won't have you in mine.

I could not agree more. The less said about the Greeks the better. I saw some revolting Greek ceramics once. I dont think I've ever gotten over it.

Hideous rubbish. Did you see it, Bobby? Grown men doing the most obscene things to each other.

No, Bbbwian. You misrepresent/lie about exactly what I said you lied about.

Anyone who equates 16th century inquisition with 20th century American court cases around censorship is an ignorant idiot, ignorant about both the inquisition and modern censorship trials in Anglo jurisdictions.

What happened to Galileo Galilei, Soren?  IIRC he was put on trial before the Inquisition because he said that the "planets moved".  He was found guilty and his works were burned and he was imprisoned.  So, what happened in America in the 20th century?  The authors were placed on trial and their works were destroyed.  In some cases, they were imprisoned.  Much difference between the two?  The reasons why they were put on trial might have appeared different but at their hearts, their trials were the same - they challenged the established orthodoxy.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Quote:
The unsupported assertion that there were book burning under Reagan and Bush , or even book 'burnings', is so idiotic that only someone like you would make it and only the likes of SadRoo would defended it.

Look at the work, Book Burnings by Cal Thomas.  He has established a long history of booking burning and censorship in the US.  I meant it though, as a figurative term, hence the use of double quotes, not a literal one.  Cal Thomas was a communications director for Jerry Falwell.  Tsk, tsk.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Every time you are caught out being an idiot/liar/ignorant/all of the above, you yawn or, worse, claim that people 'misunderstand' or 'misrepresent' you. But they get you exactly, Bbwian.

Your antipathy towards me clouds your mind, Soren.  Seek help, please, before you have an aneurysm.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

My antipathy it towards stupidity and you bring stupidity to this forum like no other.

Your book burning posts cover times 'under Obama' but you are a distorting and lying shite because you said in your original post that it it was 'under Reagan and Bush II", as it it was somehow authorised by them.

Were the book burnings you referenced after 2008 authorised, 'under', Barrack Hussein??  Yes. Why didn't you include him in your post?

You are so exasperatingly stupid, Bbbwian, that rubbing your nose into your idiocy is almost cruel. Almost but not quite - you WANT to play the idiot and so you do.  I think you actually enjoy being pilloried and ridiculed. You recognised long ago that you would never be praised so being laughed at is your only way to be noticed.
So here you are, making a fool of yourself at every opportunity and getting a rise and a response from a world that would not take any notice of you otherwise.

You are stupid in order to be noticed because there is no other way for you to be noticed. Sad.

The May 1933 book burning in Nazi Germany had a precedent in nineteenth century Germany. In 1817, German student associations ...

"Where they burn books, they will also ultimately burn people."

Introduction

Book burning has a long and dark history.

Book burning refers to the ritual destruction by fire of books or other written materials. Usually carried out in a public context, the burning of books represents an element of censorship and usually proceeds from a cultural, religious, or political opposition to the materials in question.

The burning of books under the Nazi regime on May 10, 1933, is perhaps the most famous book burning in history.

On May 10, 1933, German students under the Nazi regime burned tens of thousands of books nationwide. These book burnings marked the beginning of a period of extensive censorship and control of culture in Adolf Hitler's escalating reign of terror.

In this short film, a Holocaust survivor, an Iranian author, an American literary critic, and two Museum historians discuss the Nazi book burnings and why totalitarian regimes often target culture, particularly literature.

And a good thing too. The first book I'd ban is that God-awful Freud On Man's Stool, utterly appalling.

Have you read it? Full of stories about people eating faeces - pictures of it if you please.

No. The only place that rubbish belongs is in the incinerator. Old boy? Have you read it?

Thoroughly disgraceful.
