What we do know is this. If she is telling the truth, we have a rapist as an Attorney General here in Australia. As you say, one or the other is lying. Which one? There are many questions left unaddressed. Many potential witnesses not yet out of the closet. There are historical comments made by her to friends in which she complains of the incident. I don't have a timeline so I cannot say whether they fit into the 'recent complaint' exception to the hearsay rule. We do know that Porter was in the same place as the woman was at the time she says the incident occurred. It seem he had at least 'opportunity.'

The advice to the police appears to be that that evidence is inadmissible and the rest of what you've said looks like its just made up or of very little value. "Many" potential witnesses? Where did you get that from? And witnesses to what? The rape? If there was even so much as a witness who saw them go into a room together we would have heard of it by now. He had opportunity big deal?

I don't know. That is precisely why we need that PM instigated investigation led by a bloke he appoints with necessary powers.

Right now, there are two options, TWO only. 1. Porter is as inncocent as the driven snow despite his tawdry record in this area. 2. He is a rapist prick, and, no surprise, given his tawdry record.

You happy with that? You happy to have Porter carve his signature into your grand piano as an honourable man, and worthy Senior Law Officer as a person accused of rape, and allowed to walk without any decent attempt at transparency?

Setting up an Inquiry every time someone makes an allegation is a gross injustice. There needs to be some substance to the allegations and some prospect of a conviction. Even the lawyers said there is hardly any prospect of a conviction here. And its a total furphy to say oh but the allegations are so serious (oh right, next time i want to drag someones name through the mud make sure I allege something serious - good plan) . Yes but he occupies such a high office. But that doesnt mean that the allegation doesnt have to meet some basic standard of prospects of finding guilt and this case does not look like it comes any where near close

Even though I'm no Lib supporter ... Porter was 17 & still at school when this alleged rape occurred.

It has no relevance to his age now nor his position as an MP. It, unlike the more recent Brittany Higgins case was not supposedly perpetrated in parliamentary workplace by someone who was a politician or a parliamentary staffer.

Porter at the time would have been considered a minor.

Why should he be tried as an adult for the alleged actions of a teenager?

Even the former lawyers said there's no prospects of a conviction. So to what end. Just to drag his name through the mud?

Its not enough to say that because he's a Minister/AG people need to feel that he is above reproach.

There are just as many people out there who will detest this system and lose confidence in it if a well orchestrated politically motivated campaign can force a judicial Inquire with little prospects of doing anything other than dragging a mans name through the mud for the purpose of destroying him and his political career.

She came forward 12 months ago to make complaint about an alleged sexual assault/rape that she says occurred when she was 16.

32 years ago.

Christian Porter was 17 & still at school at the time.

The police are confirming what Porter said. The police did not put the allegations to Porter because they had not taken a formal statement from the woman.

I have some sympathy for that 'age' argument. I sure am not the same person I was when I was 17. But........there is ample precedent for Seniors being tried and convicted for offences they committed when they were much much younger.

It matters not what age when an offence is committed. What matters (in Law) is what age the accused is when charged.

So.
At some time in the future, some girl I was flirty with and feeling up.

Can decide that it was unacceptable and destroy my life.

Even though, at the time, she may have been as willing as I.

Looks like I'll have to make a booklet of agreements to hand out to my grandchildren.

It will be very, very interesting when all the children who are being abused by the school system decide to take the whole lot to task over forcing them to accept the perverted practices.

I just hope I live to see them all suffer for it.
