GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Women are more likely than men to stalk, attack and psychologically abuse their partners, according to a University of Florida study that finds college women have a new view of the dating scene.

“We’re seeing women in relationships acting differently nowadays than we have in the past,” said Angela Gover, a UF criminologist who led the research. “The nature of criminality has been changing for females, and this change is reflected in intimate relationships as well.”

In a survey of 2,500 students at UF and the University of South Carolina between August and December 2005, more than a quarter (29 percent) reported physically assaulting their dates and 22 percent reported being the victims of attacks during the past year. Thirty-two percent of women reported being the perpetrators of this violence, compared with 24 percent of men. The students took selected liberal arts and sciences courses. Forty percent were men and 60 percent were women, reflecting the gender composition of these classes.

In a separate survey of 1,490 UF students, one quarter (25 percent) said they had been stalked during the past year and 7 percent reported engaging in stalking, of whom a majority (58 percent) were female.

Not really

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2968709/

The literature review and the data presented here provide important information for individuals providing services and interventions to women who are violent toward intimate partners. To a great extent, women who are violent are also victims of violence from their male partners. In addition, women are more likely than men to be injured during domestic violence incidents and to suffer more severe injuries. Thus, safety issues are paramount for women who are domestically violent.

In some cases, women may be perpetrating as much or more physical violence as their partners, but their partners may be committing other types of abuse that are not always assessed, such as sexual abuse or coercive control. We recommend that service providers assess not just physical violence but all types of abuse that the woman has perpetrated and that her partner may have perpetrated against her. Such an assessment may reveal, for example, that a woman’s physical violence is in response to her partner’s attempts to coercively control her. In this case, interventions to promote behavioral change in both partners would be necessary for the abuse to stop.

Because of the many differences in behaviors and motivations between men’s and women’s violence, as discussed here, interventions based on models of male violence against women may not be effective for many women (Feder & Henning, 2005; Hamberger, 2005; Kernsmith, 2005). Gender-specific interventions tailored to the needs of women who are violent are more likely to be successful in creating behavior change.

In other words its highly complex.

I also note this from the actual author of the study in what you posted.

t also is possible that some of the physical attacks women claim they are responsible for are actually acts of self-defense, Gover added. “Maybe some of these women have been abused by their partner for some time and they’re finally fighting back,” she said.

Yes, thats exactly what they would say.

But what if, just on the offchance.

A woman was to denigrate, threaten, abuse and even strike a man over the course of several years?

What if that man was continually accepting this abuse time and again, simply to keep the peace?

And then one day she went too far, and he struck her, just the once.

She immediately screams abuse, and claims he has been the instigator "just ;look at the bruise" she states.

This scenario has been played out many times in recent times with gold diggers after the actors fortune.

But it also happens with other men.

I have seen it, I have seen the devastation caused by these shrews.

The courts always side with the "weaker" female.

You know that figure doesn't mean 61 women were DV offenders right?

You also realise that doesn't mean the remainder were all killed by men.. look at the incident in Port Mack where a woman ran down two female family members after an argument.  That's two for a start...

According to those figures, the reverse is more likely the case - and it is men simply defending themselves.... maybe some of those men have been abused by their partner for some time and they're finally fighting back...

Still a grab for the perpetual victim role, Boje?  Man - vile attacker ... woman - angelic self defender...

You've never lived with a dysfunctional woman, have you?  There are many of them out there, not least the modern crop with their minds distorted by the idea that they can do no wrong and are a sacred species... been told that way since birth.... and that the rules don't apply to them because Big Nanny State will stomp on anyone who hurts them in any way...

No - they shouldn't side with anyone.... and nor should the police.... their job is to determine facts, not create them...

Lots of maybes there.... hard facts are needed... reading in not acceptable...

How often do we see "Woman Stabs Husband!", followed by 'what did he do to deserve it?

A public servant I worked with once later married and his wife tried to poison him over a very extended period of time.... he had done nothing - she was simply insane, nothing unusual for a 'fellow' public servant... later she relented, full of remorse after being caught, and he forgave her... Jesus - talk about taking a risk with a nutter in the house!!

He was a pretty quite guy... never harmed a soul ,,,

All possibilities can be involved - that's why a scattergun approach of bashing one side on denunciation to protect the other and hoping that will resolve violence is worthless and always has been.

As so many times before - you cannot resolve the issues of violence using violence of the State and abuse of legal and civil rights - which are another form of violence titled 'rape of rights'....

The State - no more than anyone else, holds any right to exercise violence without proper reason..... and unless you are a Fascist or a Stalinist denunciation is not proper reason..... since any ratbag can denounce anyone - thus we have a rule of Law that dictates that facts must hold sway.

I was once operating a milk run - a shopkeeper - known universally as a schizo - claimed I was poking pinholes in the top of the milk bottles... mad as a hatter.... also claimed once I was throwing wheelies in the streets - how do you throw wheelies in a truck filled with milk?

Farken idiot.... so watch out for what you demand replace our rule of Law.... if ever once you permit any group to impose their 'right' to have someone convicted or even detained on accusation without clear evidence of any wrongdoing** (you know who I mean) you are destroying the rule of Law.... and are imposing a reign of terror and insanity while declaring civil war against your own people....

** is is not within the rights of a State to create of something 'wrongdoing' purely by the stroke of a pen... Magna Carta way back prevents that.... and the Rule of Law forbids it.....

Those are the fig-yures, Major Kong.... love 'em or leave 'em ....
