Look at the needle on a record player after you have played a few records -
it's covered in dust and that dust has damaged the fine detail in the groove-
every time that a record is played.
Sooner or later you'll also hear - click pop, click pop -
records are rubbish.

Hi Bobby.

Yep, but it's stil a lot of fun to spin a record or two occasionally.

I have lots of things here to deal with dust and dirt, I've had most of this stuff for years.

The little nail polish bottle is "Stylast", you put a bit on the stylus before playing a record and it is supposed to prolong the life of the stylus.

I've had that bottle for over 30 years and it still has about a quarter of the liquid left in it, it'll probably outlast me.  Grin

I wonder if that company is still in business? They can't have sold too many bottles if they last that long.. lol.

I wonder if that record could be worth something today? It's still in almost mint condition.  Grin

Hmm, maybe not   Smiley

I have an original pressing of Sgt Peppers, in fairly good condition, and even that's not really worth all that much.

I bought it years ago from one of those antiques shops in Guildford - when CDs came out some guy sold his entire collection of records and I managed to get his Sgt Peppers.

Just looked this up.

https://www.discogs.com/release/7717144-Various-6KY-Rock-Steady

It's been selling for between $19 and $122.40

However, I don't think I will part with my copy.

Worth more than my Whopper and Ripper '76 compilations.. lol.

Now I can see that I must have bought it (Rock Steady) in early 1975, wasn't sure if it was '74 or '75 in my earlier post.

Did you keep them in a K-Tel record selector?   Smiley

lol... I'd forgotten about those. Never had one but perhaps I should have bought one, I didn't even have 24 records at the time.

K-tel "Record Selector" commercial

Oh, the thing I didn't like about those compilation albums was that the record companies shortened a lot of the tracks to cram as many songs on as they could.

I distinctly remember one of the radio stations playing Hollywood Seven by Jon English from the Ripper '76 compilation after it was released and the DJ wasn't impressed that an entire verse was missing from the song.

"Ripper '76? Sounds more like a rip off to me" was what the DJ said from memory.  Grin

We had two K-Tel Record Selectors.

That DJ was probably Lionel Yorke.

He lives in Vic Park and I see him at Woolworths quite often.

Baby John Burgess too - they both shop at Vic Park Woollies.

A couple of radio legends.

I have a pristine condition pre1950 Westinghouse polished timber record player. Having looked inside it, it has all the original stampings and markers. Sounds clean and pure for the records of that era. I've also got heaps of brick records from 1920's.
I'm not a collector. I just felt I should save it all from the fate of immediate destruction crushed in a dump-skip under other antique 'trash'. I guess I have a compassionate and caring side in taking it into my home.

Decided to listen to a bit of Air Supply tonight.

...

...

...

Listening through a high quality pair of Audio-Technica headphones (can't upset the neighbours with speakers at night).

Sounds great, haven't played this for years... the drumming is absolutely awesome on these tracks. And, it's the full length version of All Out Of Love on this compilation, not the shorter 'radio' version.

No offense Carl. But Air Supply are very gay, as is their music.
Is there something you're not telling us? Cheesy
