Australian Government Proposes Law to Fine People $110,000 For Online Posts That “Offend”

The Australian Federal Government has introduced a new bill that would give them the power to financially ruin anyone for posting content online that’s deemed “offensive.”

The Online Safety Bill will make it illegal to post “seriously harmful content” to the internet, including comments or social media posts that “menace, harass or offend” other people.

The government’s eSafety Commissioner would also be granted the powers to force social media companies to remove content and disclose the private and personal details of offenders who may not be otherwise identifiable.

Companies that do not comply will face civil penalties of up to $550,000.

Those found guilty of breaking the proposed law will be forced to apologise to the offended and could also face fines of up to $110,000.

The legislation would also allow the government to block access to certain content during “crisis events,” such as the Christchurch mosque attack video.

Federal Minister for Communications and Cyber Safety, Paul Fletcher said the government is aiming to legislate the bill in the new year.

“Australians need to be safe online as they are offline,” he said. “We’re seeking comment now on this law and we hope to legislate it next year.”

Is this true?

Side-note:-  When they refer to 'The Christchurch Massacre' you just KNOW their definition of 'offensive' is anything they feel like at any given time and that the term is malleable to suit any preferred agenda currently in play (such as Blackism, Islam Without Criticism, Sheila Rights to earn more per hour while whining about being short-changed, etc) ... that is Inevitable™.... it's like the comparison with Hitler thing...... you criticise these things and you are as bad as Hitler/Stalin/Concentration Camp Gulag Guard/Every Rapist/Murderer In History etc....

As usual, that word 'offended' is wide open and one way... and all someone has to do is say they are offended and someone accused without proof of any wrongdoing is publicly crucified.

That is Fascism 101.... total control over the individual and rendering of him/her unto servitude to the state's whims.

I warned you all countless years ago that permitting governments to get away with pillorying people over someone's unsupported claim to 'being offended' or 'fearing violence' etc would lead to a form of social control unprecedented even in the history of the likes of Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia.

Dragging people into a court over someone's claimed 'feelings' is NOT the right or duty of the law.... under any circumstances whatsoever.

Take back the asylum.

'The power of government is abused and directed to an end for which it is not constituted when employed to promote rather than to detect crime and to bring about the downfall of those who, left to themselves, might well have obeyed the law.  Human nature is weak enough and sufficiently beset by temptations without government adding to them and generating crime'.

- Justice Felix Frankfurter, US Supreme Court.

(I read this to include 'creating crime out of everyday things' which is the current mode of 'governments' .... kinda makes you wish you'd signed up for being a hippy, don' it .... and saying 'do it now before it becomes illegal'...)

Trouble with this thing is the inclusion™ of that word 'offended' - which still suffers from a deliberate utter lack of clear definition and is wide open to abuse via the simple expedient of someone/anyone/for any reason SAYING they are offended....

That's what I find offensive....... and deeply so....

This insanity began with the 'feminists' and the utter nonsense that 'as long as someone 'feels' (or at the most claims to feel), then it must be so'..... utter nonsense and insanity, and the cause of immense violence and assaults against persons accused in many ways.

Law has no place in dealing with people's purported feelings.... that is their own responsibility and must be returned to those offended with interest.

Such blatant abuse of law is the offense - and it is a legal offense as well and actionable by the courts, unlike claims of feelings.....

Looks like the grubberment is looking for any way it can to snatch and grab back as much cash as possible.

"Fines" meaning the money goes straight to the grubberment.

The "offended" will get nothing from this unless they take the individual to court, a lengthy and expensive process.
It also puts even more cash in the grubberment coffers.

As for offended.

Anything you post will offend someone.

Anything you say or do will offend someone.

In this world of the terminally offended, it will be unsafe to even speak.

Mr Orwell had it in one
Silencing any opposition to the minority WOKE community is exactly what he was talking about.

The more we allow this shite to go on

The less we will be able to stop the sickness tgat is the WOKE community platform

They got their way with pooftah marriage
Then they moved toward child grooming
But we're stopped by protest and the community backlash

If these groomers suddenly decide to feel "offended" by any opposition or community posts.
They will run to the morons in the grubberment ferment to silence the normal human beings.

This will allow them to move forward with their sick grooming unopposed.

It's time to force these WOKE morons to comply with normal, healthy and open minded society.

Are we offended by Peccary swamping this Forum with accusations against unarmed nerds who get shot (not a knee on the head while on amphetamines with counterfeit money - even though no 'arrest' was being invoked) dead by Law enforcement as TERRORISTS? Are we offended by Peccary's North Korean style of Propaganda efforts - deleting/banning others who promote an alternative input?

I look forward to all the Righties that slammed Conroy way back in the mid 20's for proposing an internet filter will rise to the fore on this and lambaste the LNP to the same extent as they did Labor.   You didn't want one then, why is it going to be enforced now?  You wanted a free internet, no interference by Government and by not allowing Conroy to implement his filter, tacit approval for grooming of kids on line!    Why the sudden change LNP?

" If enacted, the legislation would have required Internet service providers to censor access to such content for all users.
However, the policy was rejected by the Coalition
[6] and was later withdrawn by the Labor party.[7] The same day the withdrawal was announced, the then Communications Minister stated that as a result of notices to Australian ISPs, over 90% of Australians using Internet Services were going to have a web filter. Australian Federal Police would then pursue smaller ISPs and work with them to meet their "obligation under Australian law".[8]"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_in_Australia

Rise up LNP voters and resist this censorship with the same vim and vigour you showed Conroy. ( the noise of pigs flying cannot be heard - but i am sure it will happen soon)
