Imagine that - a johnny-come-lately Chinker with ties to the CCP is a security risk?

Who'd 've thunk it?

Ban all donations..... end of story.... every candidate is given a budget with which to operate a campaign..... nothing more....

Unless you are born here, you cannot stand for elected office or high public office.... a good rule the way this place is going downhill into the Third World with every foreign parasite with zero idea getting into the easy money for life.

Of course not - that's what money's for......

Heard the story of a Chinese developer down Maitland way who kept breaching council rules and copping huge fines - his view was that these were chicken feed - so I'd just keep fining him and taking his money.... a million dollar fine every week or so soon adds up.... could lead to a bit of ratepayer relief, eh?

This business of money first has got to have the brakes applied.... look what the idiots in government are selling out..... and to whom with their bad attitudes towards people....

Of course, he wants his just rewards after funneling $20,000 into the lib coffers and hobnobbing with half the liberal MP'S.
Bring on a federal ICAC and stop this corruption.

ALL political donations should be banned and anyone found trying to circumvent these laws in any manner whatsoever, such as buying tickets to $500 dinners etc, should be charged with attempted bribery. It's about time the politicians actually represented the people they are supposed to represent

Part of the problem is the laws are written by the rich, for the rich.

* A million-dollar fine is a huge deterrent to someone who doesn't have a million dollars.
* A million-dollar fine is just a cost of doing business for someone who makes a million dollars a month.

As long as fines have fixed maximums, this problem will continue to exist.

When fines are levied in proportion to turnover (for companies) or disposable income (for individuals), the rich become as law abiding as everyone else.

Another method is to have a demerit point system. This is how traffic offences work: get too many demerit points in three years, licence gets ripped up. For corporate misdemeanours, too many demerit points would result in a mandatory prison sentence for the directors.
