We have fttc and it is far better speed wise than adsl. I mean it is still adsl, just to the curb instead of an exchange. The difference is when a problem with adsl occured you'd just buy a new router. I had to endure 7 days without internet or home phone because the Netgear router that powers the DPU in the pit semi-died. A new one could have been provided via overnight post rather than having to wait for a week for a tech to bring one around that I installed anyway. Surely it would be cheaper to courier out a new "device" rather than sending out a tech? Oh you say, it may be something else... Well the above still applies, the problem could be fixed in 24 hours rather than a week, report back to NBNco if that does not fix the problem and you really need a tech.
Edit: The bummer part was the Tech was an Indian and as you know when you hear an Indian voice on the phone it's another phonecall centre scammer. I almost hung up on him, especially after all the Nicole phone calls. Anyway, he was good, brought the new NBN router at the time arrived at. Just was a waste of time and money.
Geez...1st world problems.
Could be worse. At least you have less copper between your modem and the NBN. We're on FTTN, and have had a number of early issues with dropouts etc. It was only because I (and presumably others) hassled ISPs, that proper investigation was done, and a lot of the copper in town is being "remediated".
One wonders what might have been, had they rolled out FTTP in the first place *sigh* Ideology...who'd have it?
Agree with using your own kit. We brought a bit of existing kit from our last place in Canberra, here to QLD. We were on VDSL there, so had an NBN-compatible modem to "plug and play" when we got here...
