thank you AMERICA
Dec 3rd, 2020 at 10:01am

America will “will stand shoulder to shoulder with our ally Australia” as it faces enormous pressure from China, a senior member of President-elect Joe Biden has declared.

“The Australian people have made great sacrifices to protect freedom and democracy around the world,” tweeted Jake Sullivan, Mr Biden’s National Security Adviser.

“As we have for a century, America will stand shoulder to shoulder with our ally Australia and rally fellow democracies to advance our shared security, prosperity, and values.”

It's a shame that Daniel Gladys and Anastasia
And their predecessors

Have sold so much real estate
Prime agricultural land
And mining operations to the Chinese

Daniel in particular has sold half the Victorian dairy industry
And half the fruit processing industry
To the Chinese government for god's sake
And he has accepted  120 billion dollars as part of his belt and road partnership

Tweeting is cheap

Hard action and living within your budgetary constraints is far more challenging

Why do you assume America does things out of altruism?  In reality, it does things because it benefits itself.

It has refused to help Australia numerous times in the past.  It refused to help during the West New Guinea crisis (1960), Konfrontasi (1965), East Timor (1975), East Timor (1999).   It has failed to fulfil it's commitments under the A**US Treaty but expected us to do the reverse without question.

Australia was never in any danger.

In early 1942, the Japanese held a rare joint conference between the Imperial Army and the Imperial Navy to determine their future strategy.  The Navy proposed an invasion of Australia.  The Army was dubious.  They feared that the Navy lacked the ships to undertake such an operation in the face of the US and Royal Australian and British Navies.  They feared there weren't enough ships to supply such an operation.  The discussion apparently became so heated that blows were exchanged between junior officers.   The Navy appeared to be suffering from "victory disease" - too many easy victories too early during the war.  The Army said, "no!".  Lucky for them that the Navy lacked the ground forces for such an operation.   Instead they opted to "isolate" Australia.  Of course they failed at that.

They would have been faced with a difficult choice.  The Top End has little population and no industry.  It is all or nearly all in the SE corner of the continent.  They would either have to land there or advance overland across an Arid, desert landscape.  They would be faced by the returned AIF divisions from the Middle East who were well trained and equipped for operations in that sort of terrain.  The Militia were also slightly less well trained and equipped but still better than most of the colonial forces they had encountered.

If they were going to force a decision on the Australian Government they needed to capture or eliminate the means of production and the population centres.  The US contributed very little towards the direct defence of Australia.  We had nothing to fear from the Japanese.  Your American Hubris blinds you to this this of course.  Tsk, tsk.   Roll Eyes

Indeed, if only the Japanese had have wanted to invade us, which they didn't.

He is right, Sore End.  It was never the original Jap intention to invade Australia.  We got dragged in after Pearl Harbour, when it then became necessary for them to eye us.
