One of the greatest sportsmen, if not the greatest, of his era.

RIP.

That's highly disputable.

No it's not. You'd be hard pressed to find one to top him

Bjorn Borg, Seve Ballesteros, Arton Sennna, Carl Lewis, Mike Tyson to name a few.

None of them are even in the same league

I disagree, numbnuts.

Carl Lewis is the only one in this list that even comes close. The others all standard great athletes.

The big difference is that these guys were all great athletes of their day and some have records that lasted awhile longer.

People like Maradona have records that still stand up 50 years later. Bradman for instance has a batting average 30% greater than anyone else  for most of the time it was almost twice as high. The most Elite players may finish with an average of 60 Bradman was virtually 100. He averaged 40 runs more that the greatest players.

Maradona was like this for Soccer. There has never been another player in his sport that has been able to emulate him 50 years later and he is still head and shoulders in front of the field..

would these sportsmen have stood up to todays oppositions do you think??? every sport today  is so much faster than it ever was 30 years ago....comparisons are odious lets face it but if you are going to compare for instance Bradmans batting skills using todays bowlers.... I am not that sure the outcome would be the same.....

They always say that the older generations of sports people could never win a match/game/etc against modern athletes and sports people.

...but they were harder and would always win the fights and the battle of personality.
