Daniel Andrews' support surges post lockdown, new poll suggests

Support for the performance of Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and his government has surged as COVID-19 public health restrictions have been eased, a new poll has found.
A Roy Morgan poll, conducted via SMS with 818 Victorians on Monday and Tuesday, shows Labor's primary vote has increased by five percentage points since last month to 45 per cent. The party polled about 43 per cent at the 2018 state election which it won convincingly.
The state Liberals' primary vote dropped from 36 per cent in mid-October, when stage four restrictions were in place, to 30.5 per cent. The party won 30.4 per cent of people's first preference votes at the 2018 election.
On a two-party-preferred basis, the poll finds Labor leads the opposition by 58.5-41.5. Labor won the last election with a two-party-preferred lead of 57.3-42.7.
Mr Andrews' approval, those who are satisfied with his performance minus those who are dissatisfied, improved by 24 per cent on a net basis from October to November.
About 71 per cent of those polled approve of his leadership, up from 59 per cent, while 29 per cent disapprove, down from 41 per cent.Greens voters are the most likely to support the Premier (90 per cent) followed by Labor voters (82 per cent) and Coalition supporters (40 per cent).
Mr Andrews' approval is highest among those aged below 35 (78 per cent) and lowest among those aged above 65 (64 per cent).
Support for the Greens increased slightly from nine per cent to 11 per cent.
