they are learning and getting better every day.

So, they are incapable of attacking Australia today, or tomorrow or even the next day, Bobby?   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Then we have to go to the United Nations and form an alliance with
other countries that also want an arms reduction treaty.
We have to at least try.
Standing by watching and doing nothing is not an option.

If an arms reduction treaty is not forced upon China
and maybe the USA too - then the result will be a war.

Should we do nothing?

No but we should place any money betting on something that is unlikely to occur, Bobby. Roll Eyes

China has the largest navy in the world.
tsk  tsk   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

https://www.naval-technology.com/features/china-boasts-worlds-largest-navy-us-do...

The US Department of Defense (DoD) has released its ‘2020 China Military Power Report’ showing that the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has the largest navy in the world, surpassing the US Navy.

China’s fleet breakdown

    Aircraft carriers – 2
    Cruisers – 1
    Destroyers – 32
    Frigates – 49
    Corvettes – 37
    Amphibious transport dock – 37
    Medium landing ships – 21
    Diesel attack submarines – 46
    Nuclear attack submarines – 6
    Ballistic missile submarines – 4
    Coastal patrol (missile) – 86
I hope they have a warranty on all that stuff because if its like everything else made in China it wont last very long.

I think you meant
"we shouldn't place"

We have to try but there is little chance the USA and China would listen to us.

We'd need a coalition of the willing
amongst 100 other countries to help us
put pressure on the belligerents.
We would need to threaten sanctions to force them to comply.
It's a David and Goliath battle but one that needs
to be fought or China and the USA could drag us all into WW3.

I notice that both WW1 & WW2 took a year or more to really
get going as one country after another was dragged into it.
We must not repeat shocking history -
we must learn from it.

Good luck, Bobby.  When are you speaking to the UN to forge this "coalition of the willing"?  How much money do you have?  Do you have a crowd funding page?   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

The size of their navy isn't important, Bobby.  Their lack of experience in long range operations is far more important.  Their lack of experience in amphibious operations is as important.  When they gain them, you will have a reason to worry.  Of course, one wonders why they would bother to invade Australia, so far from China?  Afterall, there isn't much that we won't sell them...    Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Why did Japan expand in the 30s and 40s? What did they want that they couldn't  simply buy?

Why does china need a base at the Spratleys? How they react if Australia built a naval base there? Or Vietnam? Or the US?

It won't happen -
we're doomed to repeat the same errors of the 20th century.
People saw it coming then too but
no Govt did anything to stop it and
by then it was too late.

It starts with arms races.
Stop the arms race.

Seems to have stopped during the Cold War, Bobby.  The US and the fUSSR negotiated several arms control treaties.   Seems to have slowed the nuclear arms race.  Bobby, when are you, personally, going to do something about your concerns?  When are you going to address the United Nation's General Assembly?   When are you going to put your case to the world, rather than just this tiny little corner of the Web?  Mmm?   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

No one will listen to me.
An arms treaty is the elephant in the room that
no Govt. wants to even mention in SEA.
That's why we're doomed.

Why thank'ee, Bobby, how kind of you.  Is it what you're basing your views on the PRC military on?   Wink

That only revealed 1% of the Chinese capability.

Remember -
they have the largest navy in the world.   Shocked
