About planes....
Aug 22nd, 2020 at 11:56pm

Interestingly...I was looking at random pages of this big beaut (coffee table) book... Australia Through Time.
I came upon this which stopped me to ponder... before 2020 I wouldn’t have given it huge significant attention... probably... “oh yeah, 1947... after the war...” and looked in at other historical stuff of its time.

But .... it kind of just stood out... and I felt some sting reading it at this point in time...comparing what happened then, such amazing achievements, to how it’s all gone pear shaped now.

Qantas... just one of airline companies parking their big passenger planes in a desert for a number of years.
My daughter in law no longer working in International First Class .... from serving passengers, to a casual job now serving customers at a supermarket.

I’m reflecting... this time last year, and I’m so very, very glad... going business class to Singapore.... that was always a “bucket list” thing I wanted achieved... it was so good!
Thank goodness doing that when we could... it’s non existent now  Embarrassed

If anyone wants to share their memories of interesting plane trips....
I have a few... and the airports I liked, and hated.

For now, that 1947 news snippet.

...

Flying into Kathmandu everyone cheered as we landed.
I got caught up in all the cheering and clapping and asked the person next to me why all the clapping and cheering? He answered that a few days ago a plane had crashed here. Shocked

Watching planes land and take off at Lukla Airstrip - one of the highest and shortest in the world up in the Himalaya. Watching a plane take off and suddenly drop, only to emerge in the distance rising again 5 mins later. Many have crashed. Shocked

I don't enjoy flying.

In a seaplane over the NZ fjiordlands, my wife in the front took control of the plane and we banked a bit quickly and I freaked in the back. Shocked She and the pilot laughed and had some fun.

I remember having a couple of flights on a dc3 when i was a kid, a beast of a plane and have loved flying ever since, i did many flights on the fokker frendship fifo at the end of their life and always enjoyable but i always tried to get a window seat by the wing so i could keep an eye on the engines and to see if any rivets were getting to loose, have been in lots of light air crafts with a few hairy experiences and even a flight on a learjet, best blast ever, it was like blasting off in a rocket and the decent was like we were going straight down.

My next flight is going to be in a glider, that would be the ultimate for me.

JaSin... back in the late 90s in a family trip to NZ, I had pre booked a small plane flight to go over the fjords.
But the weather turned bad and it was cancelled.
At that time, a lot of small plane accidents/deaths happened in that area on those flights....
I have found, I’m not a big fan of small planes, after all.... I like big planes no problems, but I can’t help feel more nervous on a smaller plane.

Didn’t know I had that problem until I was in a smaller plane.

Yes I still went on a sea plane in Alaska....but felt freaky about it the whole time.

I have been up in a helicopter over the Great Barrier Reef and I found I am okay with Helicopters.

Don’t understand my slight fear of the smaller planes. Weird.

It was just luck, the fokker had broken down and they were shuttling us to  and from work in any plane they could find, i felt like a celebrity walking out on the tarmac towards that machine.

Yes i could have flown that learjet easy, i had may aviation sun glasses on.

They let you get behind the controls of a glider for only a few hundred bux, i would soar.

Well I’m glad some found it interesting about the finding of Amelia Earhart’s plane that mysteriously vanished… and the reason why it did.
