Oh, yes.

Here's a picture I took of Halley's Comet from my backyard on April 6th, 1986. I could just barely see it with the naked eye at the time.

(the camera was on a tripod and it was a time exposure - 30 or 60 seconds, can't remember the exact exposure. Hence the slight star trails due to the earth's rotation).

I saw it once clear as a bell while waiting for the ferry at about 3am to get back to the farm... clear night with no lights on....... beautiful tail and clear as a bell... I was most impressed... other nights, piffle...

Halley's comet was at it's most spectacular in March 1986, it was easily visible to the naked eye from my backyard and had a visible tail.
By April it was closer but the tail had gone so it just looked like a fuzzy blob.

Well when Columbus stood on a giant map of the known world on the floor and explained the world is round. Things kinda split around about then.

Also, philosophically, Tolkien also uses the Flat Earth to describe the Elves going 'the Straight Way' (off the revolving Earth) to Valinor.

Buddhists also use the Flat Earth archetype to help people leave the 'vicious cycle' of addiction.

Only Scientists would think 'Flat Earth' is meant as a scientific expression, not Spiritual.
