Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and his wife Therese Rein have been revealed as the mystery buyers of former tennis player Pat Rafter’s home, which they purchased for a whopping $17 million back in May.

The beachfront Sunshine Coast property boasts seven bedrooms, and was snapped up by Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co founders David Hales and wife Louise in 2018 for $15.2 million.

The pair reportedly hoped to get $20 million for the property at Sunshine Beach, but settled for the $17 million sale to Rudd, the AFR reported.

The house is H-shaped, and was designed by architect John Burgess. It boasts a 12-metre pool, a three-car garage, a home theatre room and a climate-controlled cellar.

Rudd’s wife Rein said the purchase was in a bid to invest back into Australia.

"We’ve made a conscious decision to bring our investments home to Australia," Rein said.

"While Kevin was in office, we had to invest overseas to avoid conflicts of interest. We’ve now mostly brought those investments back home to Australia."

Yep, the same "humble Labor man-in-the-street socialist" who was the 'architect' of the not-so-great idea of putting the pension age up to 67 (for everyone except pollies and their armies of 'hanger ons', of course).

Mind you, if Labor hadn't done it I'm sure the Liberals would have by now, they were even considering putting it up to 70 until they realized it would have cost them last year's Federal election.

I read a story in our newspaper last week where a recent study was done and the conclusion was that by the time the majority of workers reach the age of 50, they're lucky if they have another 8 or 9 years of working life left before they're worn out.

The pollies and senior public servants won't have a problem though - the most amount of energy the majority of them expend in a single working day would be getting up from their desks and walking to the toilet (and smoke/lunch breaks) and back.

you forgot smokos..when my daughter was still working for the PS...they were allowed to go out whenever it suited them..because they couldnt smoke near the building they walked across a four lane street to a car park...as you can imagine this took about 25 min all up....it was an absolute joke..

Not at all. Like I said in another thread this country and many others like it are full of over payed word idiots that create absolutely nothing and charge a fortune for words on a bit of paper because governments legislate them into prosperity. Once upon a time we had the CES and it did a half reasonable job finding jobs for the unemployed. Now you have these job shark network parasites who don't create a single job and charge the tax payers billions each year for teaching the unemployed how to use the yellow pages !!

They are essentially an outsourcing business that takes Govt money, and at a very high rate provide services that Govts could easily do themselves, at a fraction of the cost.
