Bat Soup Recipewww.grouprecipes.com › Recipes

Place the bats in a large kettle and add water to cover, ginger, onion, garlic and salt. Bring to a boil and cook for 60 minutes.
Add sea urchins with prickled pear, serve after 14 days.

Don't forget the BASA (Mekong Catfish) fillets. They've been  fed by river-village faeces, rather than being grain fed with pellets. Remember when all the Fish n' Chips stores made that it's primary 'Flake' offering much to the ire of the public.   Tongue

"Growing up around these parts we used to walk up and down the river, and if we came across an echidna we'd take it back to the elders and they'd cook it up, so all us kids would have a good feed out of it. People say it tastes like chicken, but I reckon it's a lot better than chicken. It's one of a kind, it melts in your mouth."

It's nothing without the prickles.

As K would say, one doesn't mind a little prick in your lips when the result is juicy, miam miam.

Do you think it would be a good food source for all those poor tinted folk in Africa? A new export market?

Besides Echidna, I'm sure Koala and Platypus are a delicasy.

"Trevor Krause, grew up on a mixed farm, so know something about animals.

I have had people tell that it is a once in a lifetime experience. Once you have tasted Koala you will make sure that for the rest of your life you never have to repeat the experience, even if it means dying of starvation."

and you lived in the Gong? Shocked Shocked Shocked

there was plenty in the gong, and NSW in general  ... not so much on the goldie ... I think it's considered a pest up here in Qld

It's a national declared pest.

Quote:
Prickly pear in Queensland is a generic term for five different Opuntia cacti, which were the main pest species.  Three were low-growing shrubs up to 1.5 metres high and two were tree pears, growing up to 3 metres.

https://www.qhatlas.com.au/content/prickly-pear

It was introduced to start a cochineal industry.

It became a disaster until the introduction of the Cactoblastis moth.

The fruit is high in Vitamin C ....

I found them to be very bland/ordinary taste wise.

The prickle hairs weren't worth the effort.

Tiger Pear is the worst shyte ..... it's thorns will penetrate the toughest 4x4 tyres.

I thought it was legal in NSW. I've seen heaps of it in and around Sydney's and Wollongong's back yards

Yeah that's probably right ... but you can never be surprised as to just what people grow in their backyards.

Being on public lands or farmlands maybe a different story.
