As an example, this morning this individual was awake at 4:04am thinking about child rape.

Would it be in the best interests of this person to recommend they seek some kind of psychological help to stop these obsessive thoughts manifesting their every waking moment?

I deal with many people who have problems.
One of which has the potential to 'touch children'.
Obviously this person does get 'professional help' and is somewhat living a life that voids interaction from children and sticks to preventative measures not to move in that direction.
But left to their own device, they will stray like an alcoholic towards a bottle.

In the old days, this person would not get professional help and 'medication', but be sent to the rock camps to chip away building a pyramid instead with chains and a whip.

I sometimes wonder if we are 'too soft' and compassionate.
But what price is paid by the child, if the modern system fails?
