What a con by NZ..watch it take off in Australia.
May 20th, 2020 at 5:20pm

Jacinda Ardern (aka Mr Ed) is floating the idea of a four day working week in NZ....
How insidious is this....
The after effects of the virus are beginning to surface.....
In Australia, because there aren't enough full time jobs to go around, we created the gig economy, where
a hefty percentage of workers have to make do with part time work....
Now, guess what....NZ is considering a four day week.....
Well...who would have guessed...
Instead of working five days per week.....
Guess what....you now only have to work for four....
Meaning you have a fantastic three days per week to enjoy the sights of NZ and give all your
money to tourism.....
What money...youre now only being paid for a four day working week....
Your salary has been cut by 20%...…
Watch Australia have a close look at this and bingo....before long....
Our gig economy will be furthered by the four day working week...…
Am I being cynical or am I being cynical...…
Watch this con of the peasants slowly perpetrated into NZ and Australia in the coming months....
Do you really, honestly think that some employers are going to employ people to work from home
for five days per week....working from home I hear is going to become the "in thing" of the future....
AND trust their workers to work a full 40 hour week......AT HOME......
I see...
Not enough jobs to go round after the virus.....
How bout four days per week suckers.....
What a con..... Grin Grin Grin

It's a good idea in principle. It would certainly help solve the unemployment problem.

The only problem is that many people are living week by week working a 5 day week. Cut their pay and they won't be able to survive

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

it is time working hours were changed.....9 to 5 was ok 50 yrs ago......now we have peek hour roads where a break down can add two hours to your time getting home.. its pathetic..its also adding to roadrage.. which is getting more and more violent..... I read where in N>Y they have found it is much easier for certain groups to work from home....some some business' are looking at not renting office space.... this in turn will affect the lunch diners...and cabbies..to name a few......but these lockdowns will possibly change a lot of things....and why not???

we need to adapt and accept....

Employees in Australia often get to choose their weekly hours. So the idea of a 4 day week does not even make sense. A lot of doctors and lawyers and small business people for example work 50+ hour weeks. A lot of other professionals on a nominal 38 hour week end up doing far more, with or without compensation, depending on the employer.

Solving unemployment by making everyone less productive and giving everyone less money to spend? You sure that's a good idea?

That's not why "we" created the gig economy. If people could be employed on a full time basis under the same rules for casuals and contractors, the unemployment problem would disappear overnight. Maybe you would have to get rid of minimum wages also.

A lot of people...forgotten the numbers...are on JobKeeper or
Jobseeker....I presume that a percentage of those working were on a five day week then went to JobKeeper/JobSeeker...then to a four day week...
They have all literally had a pay cut....
BUT Ardern hasn't released details of how this would be implemented...what about those who are on five day working week now, without the subsidy...do they go back to four...This is just window dressing the gig economy where there
isn't enough work for everyone...so casual work is the go...Now with a four day working week it will be worse...
I cant see how it can be a good idea....I really cant.....

Sure? no, but it's certainly worth looking at

how is everyone less productive?  No one is saying businesses change their work hours.
If everyone produces x amount of units per day, who cares if x is being produced by steve or by janine.
Besides, several studies have found productivity increases with less hours. Here's one example

Quote:
Microsoft found that implementing a four-day workweek led to a 40% boost in productivity, the company announced as part of the results of its "Work-Life Choice Challenge." The summer project examined work-life balance and its effect on productivity and creativity.

I was always under the impression that the gig economy was created simply because employers in Australia couldn't employ people full time because to do so, they had to pay up to 38 different taxes...(Im told) Therefore they decided to employ people for shorter working weeks. The insidious compulsory superannuation levy for example adds an unwanted burden to all employers. Therefore an employee is given casual work in lieu. This is just an example of the cost of running a business in Australia...
The gig economy disguises the fact that there aren't enough full time jobs to go around because of the cost of running a business. If the cost of running a business was less, then full time jobs would be created...and there would be no need for a four day working week.
Those costs are imposed by government.
We will never ever increase productivity in Australia
whilst it is too costly to produce.
Taxes have to come down...costs have to come down...
If a four day week in introduced, the population will suffer...
It will be a step in the wrong direction...
Governments are incompetent....
We are being conned.....

Are you trying to compete with bobby here? Australian work an average of two months overtime for free. You really think that's their choice?
