Were the police heavy handed?
May 9th, 2020 at 9:25pm

See this video:

https://www.facebook.com/100001302473643/posts/2918877704832283/

I feel sorry for the little boy crying for his Mother.
Surely it could have been handled better?

I'm not on Facebook so I can't see the comments.

The video starts with the police physically removing her.

Why didn't it show the numerous move on requests that would have proceeded that?

The thing is, this is clearly not an aggressive political activist, destroying and damaging property -
so why the heavy handed tactics from police?

She obviously ignored a police directive to move on and used her child as a shield.

Here's a good tip. When you're with your kids, comply with police directives even if you don't want to. Want to dig your heels in, drop kid of at grandmas house then come back and get yourself arrested.

Couldn't they have just told her to go home? -
or maybe she had a right to protest?

When police give you a directive you disagree with, you comply then take it up with their superior or your local MP at a later stage.

If you want to argue the point, you end up in a paddy wagon.

At Bondi today the cops were strictly enforcing 'swim and go'.

You drop your towel on the beach at a designated section, enter the water for as long as you like then depart the beach immediately when you exit the water. I few people thought they were special and the rule didn't apply to them, the police very politely asked them to move on, anyone who didn't got the serious police game on face.

One woman, a big fat drunk abo got frog marched off the beach for not complying.

Yes but there are laws. Like I said tho, if she wanted to disobey a police directive, take the kid home first. What was she protesting?

Isn't it a pity that the kid's parents found it necessary to abuse their son by using him as a 'shield' (so to speak) to break the law? Also Blobby, did this kid's parents not consider that their child was at risk of being infected with coronavirus when they took him along with them and placed him in the middle of this disorder just so they could use the little boy to garner sympathy from onlookers?

And to answer your silly question NO the police were not 'heavy handed'.....they were doing their job......

The woman is despicable for both  ignoring the social distancing rules that are keeping the Chinese virus at a manageable level and for using her child as a prop  in her self centred protest.  No one likes the rules in place at the moment but any sane person can see the reason for them.

I know only too well that's it's commemorating 'Victory in Europe Day' seventy plus years ago Blobby. People (my relatives included) gave their lives to allow people to be free, not to break the fkken law you clown, and use their kid as an excuse to do so.

Hang em high eh Blobby?

Disobeying the Law is not an act of Freedom.

Protesting is no place for children.

And i'm sure she got plenty of ample warning before the cops had to do this.

Don't feel sorry for her at all.

Maybe because the law is a joke. People have the right to protest it was obviously peaceful and not blocking access, beyond that laws that allow police to interfere with peaceful protest are just wrong.

The right to protest is an important part of a democracy and police being used to stop protest is an element of a police state.

You don't see the police turn up to Truck blockades and such which are a genuine public nuisance and danger to the community but that is ok they prefer to grab a young woman with a child for next to no reason, just an easy mark.

Interesting tactic to hold your shield behind you. Really dumb assertion.

I think more likely she believed that a child would be safe at a peaceful protest and that she had every right to expect that in Australia.

I think more likely she believed that a child would be safe at a peaceful protest and that she had every right to expect that in Australia.

what was the peace rally dna???  I still dont know .

you dont take a child to any kind o f protest no matter what.....did the police use strong arm tactics or water cannons.or batons????....I didnt see any of that which is usual at protesting rallies......

was she a rally of ONE... seems odd  when we are still being told to stay home.... Roll Eyes

why was her friend more concerned with taking her video than taking the child away????....were the police breaking up people who were not practicing social distancing????...

the full story would help.

The law may be a joke, but we still need to obey the laws of the country. You don't argue the merits of the law when police are trying to arrest you, in the middle of the street with a toddler in tow, you argue it in court.

Even if she could argue she did nothing wrong, the charge of resisting arrest will most likely now stick, as well as that kid will be forever more traumatized every time he see's police

It doesn't say why she was arrested.
It's a fair assumption that it was due to forbidden words.
"Magna Carta" is perhaps an example?

She and her band of fkkwits were in breach of the Statewide distance/isolation rules due to the pandemic, they were told to disperse and go home and they decided that they were NOT going to comply with lawful instructions, and the woman then used her kid as a publicity prop causing the kid obvious distress, so they were arrested........good job Officers!

Bobby, would she have even come to the attention of the police if we were not in the middle of the KungFlu pandemic?

Probably in a couple of weeks she can go back to that exact spot and protest to her hearts content with her baby shield in tow.

And yet you're the one pretending she was arrested for words.

By the way, the Magna Carta says that EVERYONE is subject to the law ....

that includes protesters hiding behind their kids

Remember what I posted about the beach yesterday? The cops and rangers were strictly enforcing where you could and couldn't go.

I dropped my towel at the swimming area and walked about 200m down to the surfing area to tell my daughter to start to get out. Cops on a sand buggy came after me and told me to go back to the other end. I told them why I wanted to go down there, they said no worries but please make it quick because if people see one person in the area, others will follow.

I saw them bail up other people and most immediately complied, ones who didn't got a more aggressive police posture.

People congregate in lumps so having her protesting there would draw a cluster of people. She would have been given request after request to move on before they acted and she ignored them.

She alone is responsible for what the poor kid went thu.

We all have opinions about whether she has the right to protest, whether the Police were heavy handed, whether
she should have even had her kid with her....
Opinions are like arseholes...we all have one...
My opinion is that the kid shouldn't have been there, and that
she has a right to protest and that the Police handled it poorly.
A copper friend of mine watched the video of the entire scene
and just shook his head at how it was handled....
Personally.....

I saw that. It wasn't the beginning, the police would have afforded her the opportunity to move on and she refused.

Are you now in the camp the public should ignore the social distancing rules and do you ignore police directivs?

F...K you're daft. I drive up Macquarie St a few times a week and there's something going on in front of the NSW parliament nearly every time and they're never bothered provided they don't try to restrict access.

And in NSW the current rules are you are only allowed to leave home for shopping, work or exercise.

I don't think standing around the street with a protest sign would be any of the above.

Are you suggesting DARL, because there's a pandemic...we have no civil rights...are you that far king stupid...
Of course its about civil rights...
We just don't lose our civil rights because there's a pandemic..there may be more rules put in place, but people
still have civil rights...
We don't live in far king Russia or China do we....
I suppose if you want to continue to live under a tyrannical rule...you go right ahead.....

Lots of 'would have' and 'could have' remarks.  All I know is what I saw in that video.

Cods, what social distancing breach is demonstrated in that video?

Lots of comments about....just do what the Coppers tell you and all will be well.

Fukk that.  That comes straight out of a fascist regime.

Insist on your rights, is my way.  Strictly from what I saw in that video, she was doing what is lawful and the Cops should have just said, 'Have a nice day, Ma'am' and left her to her Son and her silly cardboard signs.

Aussie is wrong. Which of the following had she left her residence for, Aussie?

A,B,C or D?

Public Health (COVID-19 Restrictions on Gathering and Movement) Order 2020under thePublic Health Act 2010

In particular, this Order directs that a person must not, without reasonable excuse, leave the person’s place of residence.

Examples of a reasonable excuse include leaving for reasons involving—

(a)  obtaining food or other goods and services, or
(b)  travelling for the purposes of work or education if the person cannot do it at home, or
(c)  exercise, or
(d)  medical or caring reasons.

Qld has, since the beginning of this year.

Further, the default position on civil rights is.....unless it has been lawfully prohibited, you can do what you like.  The Cops have no right to interfered with me, unless they have been lawfully authorised to do so.  They cannot just make up powers on the fly.

It's distressing to watch.
That poor little kid was terrified.
I hope they're all OK today?

I found out I can read the comments by clicking on the comments word.

One comment says

Quote:
Ays Medz this is pure act of EVIL 👿 ! Wtf are these dogs doing ? pulling dragging shoving the lady , they can clearly see the little kid crying and screaming ! How traumatic would it have been for that kid and then to be pulled away from his mother ! ! ! Where’s social distancing !

BOBBY THE KID SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN THERE...

you seem to want to avoid that small detail...

the police have a job to do....they could be out there catching Somalia home invaders.

instead they are dealing with people who are afraid to stay home for a few weeks.....

of course these idiots would prefer to see our hospitals over flowing and doctors and nurses dropping like flies..

and crooks getting away with everything because the police are tied up.....

but dont let that interfere with your thoughts on this one bobs.

I hope DOCS puts her on a warning about looking after her kid!

The kid should never have been taken there for both health and safety reasons as she would have known a clash with the police was likely!

She was arrested, essentially because she stopped to congregate.

The funnies thing about her being an anti-vaxxer, she's skeptical about life saving vaccines yet happy to pump herself and other people full of injectibles to make them look perdy.

On Saturday at the beach, I saw the rangers and police ask many people to move on.

They asked politely and nearly everyone complied. I saw two smart arses being escorted away from the beach for not complying and told if they returned they'd be fined/arrested.

Pro tip one. Don't disobey police directive during a pandemic.
Pro tip two. If you're going to disobey a police directive during a pandemic, don't use your child as a human shield.

it changes the excuses you can use. She was asked to move on, she refused, they arrested her. Simples.

In the video she definitely said she was - ill try again tomorrow to find it

Here are some valid reasons Aussie would leave his house.

Are you starting to get it now?

She and her anti-vax, pandemic/5G conspiracy group has been running around PH wearing signs every day and the police have not acted because they're 'technically' exercising.

She decided to stage a protest and was asked to move on. What happened next is on her.

Cosmetic nurse Renee Altakrity, 36, was arrested on Saturday outside the New South Wales parliament in Sydney’s CBD during an anti-coronavirus lockdown protest.

Just look at the comments on Youtube:

Every one of these cowards should face charges of terrorism and child abuse. Every single asshole involved.
This is also why protesting on the streets is the wrong approach. The best form of protest is non compliance and community support at a local level.
Don't "protest" just Disconnect!

Not sure what preceded this however are police enforcing social distancing? I think when it suits. This video is shameful. We are going down a bad path.

Why is Australia still accepting ? Funny that a noisy, polluting motorbike can pass without issues. Why ? Because the police are there for the multinationals.

That looks like a kidnapping to me. It doesn't matter if they have a badge or not.

Well - I'm surprised about the poll result here.
When I look at the comments in the YouTube video
they are the opposite.

Dunno - maybe she could give me some trout lips?

bobby look at the comments on here........where people have had time to look and see and hear the other side...

of course that child was upset....but it wasnt the police fault he was there...

she refused to obey the cops.... doesnt matter whether you agree with them   they have a job to do  and we should comply with their orders....

mate it would be anarchy here if we all behave like this women  and those 4000 people who believe she was right...

do you really believe the cops enjoy arresting people for waving a few banners..???????????

come on bobby... tell who you would call in your hour of need.....

ask that lady who would she call?????....

I thought the cops behaved rather well .. she was held on to by a female cop...who was trying to reason with her....

if they let her just walk away..... what do you think everyone else the police ask to move on will do????????????????????????????????????????

That's why I could never be a cop.

I'd want to be out there like Dirty Harry -
cleaning up the town of the worst crooks -
with my .44 magnum not
abusing a young mother and child.
