oh dear this was meant to be a happy thread and its brought back some not good memories....so sad to red those stories  childhood is so precious cannot be remade once its gone its gone....like lols I made up my mind my kids wouldnt have what I had....lucky me I picked a good man  my kids all had childoods they can look back on without any regret or sadness.. except losing their dad while they were only just out of childhood....I do not think they would have one bad memory of him......

I do hope all the mums on here have a great day and a happy one.....the past is gone

Sorry Captain, mine died some years ago and whilst we had a "turbulent" relationship over the years, I still miss her.    My Sister was silently fleecing Mum of her savings and when it all came to light, she just couldn't take it anymore and went rapidly downhill, passing away 10 months later.   She would have been 94 on Anzac Day.

Thanks for those kind thoughts Cods; Vic and Spot.

Sorry for your loss too Spot.

My Mum had an interesting life.

Survived the Blitz (was born in Fulham London 1920)

Was one of the two typists for Churchill in the later stages of WWII

Lost her first husband very young, he was a crew member on a Wellington bomber or Lancaster (I forget which one).

Married 3 times.

6 children.

10 pound Pom.

oh dear god...thats awful and I have heard it happens so often  ....and almost always a daughter....to me its unforgivable  I have 3 kids 6 grandkids...and the 3 will get everything equal....I wouldnt dream of treating one any different to the others.....it leaves a terrible legacy....so sorry to hear of that guys...its truly dreadful...

what a great life you mum had capt....I do hope she left her history behind..... I was born in Mile End...a real cockney though wasnt brought up there.. I lived  in a place called Wanstead..tough as teak as they say...and they had to be...... I bet she would raise her eyebrows at the whingeing that goes on today....

.we lived in a basement with no bathroom....we were one of the lucky ones with an inside loo...

My mother was a scientist in the days when women werent scientists. They got her to make the tea and coffee most of the time and she never got credit. It was how it was in those days i guess. Still is sometimes i think. She wrote and published a book when she was 90 and was working on a sequel when she died. I was going to finish it for her (from her notes) but drama happened and someone took all the files and papers etc. She would have been 92 this month.

Yep, the older generation really knew about hard times.

We have been very lucky in comparison.
