I know dogs don't smile but it looks like they do? My son told me off because he said cat's don't smile !! will get a pic ~

my cats have never seen a rat- but your's has I know that- he is such a good boy- never mind he will be good until the end of his days- Henry Gonzalez is a legend these days that much i DO know ~ my girls sometimes look like they are smiling I could swear it- but that does not mean anything ~~ they are very good girls - but i don't know if they actually smile ( or not )

Nah.

IMO, you are trying to see a smile on the mouth of a cat, is seeking to attribute a human mannerism, to a feline.

That 'desire' say's much more about yourself, than it does about any cat, imo ?

What i think....
If you see a domestic cat walking with his/her tail erect, that is the 'display' of a happy/content cat.

They smile and they love and they get pissed off and they love again and they manipulate you and then love you again and they are wonderful, sentient beings.

Both cats and dogs smile. Cats open their eyes wide and you can see their mouths rise with their cheeks and ears prick. Dogs smile. I watched my dog laugh at something, once. It was more like a "Ha!" and then a muffled chuckle. Then he looked around for validation to what he saw. I kind of ruined his fun when I stared at what he was doing. He assumed that I was being aggressive and then he changed his demeanour to feeling guilty.

Mice and Rats smile at Bojack Horseman in the Labs because they give him a job and a reason to exist.
