Here's a good one - this is in cod's link in post #13

"The legislation required people to vote — it's compulsory — so when people don't vote we move into what we call a non-voter program.

"That means we'll make contact with everyone on records who didn't vote, and we enter into a communication with them.

"There's a number of stages in that process, so it's not automatically a fine."

There's nothing special about this, they're not being extra kind and considerate, it's done after every election, Fed, State or Council elections. If for some reason you didn't vote, the standard procedure is you get a notice asking for a reason. If your reason is deemed to be unacceptable, you then get a fine which you can either pay or fight it out in court

The words "Stay at home" must have an entirely different meaning to the Qld Govt and Electoral Commission, what part of "stay at home" don't they understand?

not good is it?....look at NSW half of them are crooked if anything comes out of this crisis we should make changes to our system

personally I think we are over governed they all turn into little fiefdoms run by people who couldnt run a toilet with two doors......yet we put up with it..
