Ben Wyatt Leaving Politics

It's a shame.  He was one of the good ones.

"Treasurer Ben Wyatt has announced he will not contest the next election, citing a family health issue.

"The announcement was made on Tuesday morning alongside Premier Mark McGowan."

Yes, he would have been a huge loss to the government.

When they got elected and started reigning in the massive spending Ben took the heat, was honest about what and why he was doing it, and now in a crises when all governments have to spend like crazy, we are better positioned to deal with it in WA.

The reason WA is well placed is the price of iron ore. They did not account for it being around $90 a tonne, this has given the government an unexpected massive windfall.

The Labor government made some tough choices when they got in, look at your utility bills, how high they went to try and fix the debt,  that is not a vote winner, but they had the courage to do it,  to try and deal with the  spending of the previous government.

Now I am not of ether party, and the Barnett got a lot of huge things done, a world class stadium, museums and Elizabeth Quay, he was an infrastructure  visionary.

But they never really looked at the numbers in the long run.

Labor dealt with that, and now that we are in a virus storm, because Labor dealt with the excessive debt, we are in the position to deal with the virus storm.

And notice how no one on this forum or any other, even worse any other state parliament,  gives a flying bugger about Western Australia, even though we are the main engine of Australian trade and prosperity?

But that is another thread, and one I think most of us West Australians could agree on.

West Australians  arent quite right, cant put my finger on it but something went wrong in the gene pool about 150 years ago.  Its resources are an accident of nature, nothing more.

Just the way it is. Raven is not from WA but has spent most of his working life here. Even went so far as to marry a WA girl.

WA is the neglected child of Australia. Despite the fact that our economy would not be what it is without WA.

Frankly WA made a mistake by joining the Federation. WA isn't even mentioned in the preamble of the Constitution (though that is due to the fact WA ummed and ahhed until the last moment.)

WA gives everything to the eastern states and gets f.uck all in return.

Raven is waiting for the succession movement to restart under the Covid-19 pandemic. Is it time to properly pull the trigger and go it alone?

Quoth the Raven "Nevermore"

Raven would rather ask questions that may never be answered, then accept answers which must never be questioned.

'A good one' what ?

He must have 'represented' something.

What did he represent ?
