Australia shares much in common with Indonesia...both are regressive democracies, both are destroying their environments.
We actually share nothing in common with Indonesia.
Our Govt is secular ... theirs is not .. it's influenced heavily by Islam.
Our govt doesn't have any other foreign country of another racial group under it's colonial control
as Indonesia has been doing for 55 years with West Papua.
We don't have criminal capital punishment or religious capital punishment administered by religious police.
We don't eat cats, dogs, fruit bats or should I say everything that moves.
etc etc.
Aussies love going there to eat though.
Part correct, but mainly Aussie’s love going there to drink!
So my adventure about 3 years ago now, where I reluctantly was forced to go to Indonesia because my son’s partner wanted to get married over there
We were advised not to eat street food anywhere claiming to be chicken satay! Where we stayed in a resort the food was amazing, that’s a given.
We go out for drives to see places, and every time we returned, to a gated security, the guards would have these detectors and mirrors going the whole vehicle, before entering the grounds of our resort.
Bomb scare problems?
Often went for long walks, going to street markets where I love taking photos of the real people of Indonesia.
We had this little lovely friendly dog follow us. My friends said not to pat him in case he has a disease!
He looked fine to me, I gave him a snack I had in my bag.
I often think of that cutie and hope he lived.
He was a survivor, looking for tourists near the resorts as he waited in parks.
If we crossed the road, we looked to see what he would do, he hesitated, looked both ways, then crossed over to keep us company.
Yeah I’m a dog loving kind of person. Things like that make my day.
Anyway, their Bin Tang is not too bad and reasonably priced.
I loved our long hot walks in the streets with markets and little supermarket shops.
Went to the Monkey forest, they are very cheeky and hilarious!
Until one young one, on my way out, grabbed my long cardi I was wearing, and swung on it, everyone’s faces at the entry point went “whoa” my daughter had her hand over her mouth and went “Oh no! Mum!” and then it bit my leg.
I dropped my mobile phone saying ouch loudly and running off!! You should’ve seen the Chinese tourists look of horror on their faces as they were coming in!
Lucky for me I had on long slacks and was bruised only and the skin wasn’t broken.
Always eventful my adventures!
The roads are narrow, the traffic thick, our van driver twice with the side window had it bent when someone walked into it as we were driving along!!
I virtually cried out in shock (because I was in front passenger seat) but everyone else laughs.
Then it happened again with a motorcyclists carrying a big load.
Not sure I would get used to this!
I’m thinking, I just want to get back home to Australia in one piece!!
Well I went, I saw, and not so fussed about going again.
My son and his wife and her family go back every year for their anniversary and always ask us to go but we don’t want to,
All they do is sit near the pool and beach areas and drink,
Just not my thing.
I hope they don’t consider going this year given the circumstances of not knowing if the c-virus is a concern there or not.
