So are you allowed to change someones words in a quote or not? Or just some privileged few?

Good question.

I have been deleting long nested quotes and changing the font size of the relavant text.

Is that Illegal?

I kinda remember a debate about that but not what was decided. IMO if it still says what the other person said it should be fine but someone quoted me and changed what i said.

Should not change things "quoted" ... but I must say, great slabs of nested quotes are a pain in the bum.

I sometimes quote the gist of someone else's post but truncate it with a "... " just allow more room to reply.

I'd prefer quotes to end as whole sentences. Sentences not truncated. Meanings not warped by selective quoting.

I have no problem deleting everything except what you are responding to, but it should not misrepresent what is being quoted. Leaving quotes to the whole of the sentence/statement is not something I think too onerous.

It seems my push to make a globally acceptable rule on quoting wasn't accepted so I don't bother any more.
