Now REAL Govt in action

Now this is more like it. Boost the economy with massive infrastructure projects.

ScoMo doesn't waste taxpayers' money feeding wasteful unproductive Welfare like Labor recommends.

No doubt there will be new legislation to stop the corrosive repulsive Greenies from interfering.

Government to inject economic stimulus by accelerating infrastructure spend
Michelle Grattan  November 19, 2019 10.30pm AEDT

...
Australia is in good safe hands

The government is responding to increasing concern about the faltering economy by accelerating A$3.8 billion of infrastructure investment into the next four years, including $1.8 billion for the current and next financial years.

Scott Morrison will outline the infrastructure move in a speech to the Business Council of Australia on Wednesday night, while insisting the government is not panicking about Australia’s economic conditions.

The government’s action follows increasing calls for some stimulus, with concern the tax cuts have not flowed through strongly enough to spending.

The just-released minutes of the last Reserve Bank meeting show the bank seriously considered another rate cut at its November meeting but held off, partly because it thought that might not have the desired effect. Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe has previously urged more spending on infrastructure.

Morrison is making appearances in various states to publicise the government’s infrastructure plans.

The infrastructure bring-forward over the coming 18 months is $1.27 billion plus $510 million in extra funding. Over the forward estimates, the bring-forward is $2.72 billion plus $1.06 billion in additional funding.

The government’s latest action means since the election it will have injected an extra $9.5 billion into the economy for 2019-20 and 2020-21. This comprises $7.2 billion in tax relief, $1.8 billion in infrastructure bring-forwards and additional projects, and $550 million in drought assistance to communities.

In his BCA speech, draft extracts of which have been released, Morrison is expected to say that “a panicked reaction to contemporary challenges would amount to a serious misdiagnosis of our economic situation”.

“A responsible and sensible government does not run the country as if it is constantly at DEFCON1 the whole time, whether on the economy or any other issue. It deals with issues practically and soberly.”

He will say that notwithstanding the headwinds, including the drought which has cut farm production, the economy has continued to grow, and is forecast to “gradually pick up from here” with jobs growth remaining solid.

“Against this backdrop, it would be reckless to discard the disciplined policy framework that has steered us through many difficult periods, most recently and most significantly the end of the mining investment boom, which posed an even greater threat to our economy than the GFC.”

The projected return to surplus this financial year would be a “significant achievement”.

Lauding the government’s legislated tax relief, Morrison will say. “Our response to the economic challenges our nation faces has been a structural investment in Australian aspiration, backed by responsible economic management.”

Morrison’s infrastructure bring-forwards follow his post election approach to the states asking for projects that could be accelerated.

As a result of this process we have been able to bring forward $3.8 billion of investment into the next four years, including $1.8 billion to be spent this year and next year alone.

This will support the economy in two ways – by accelerating construction activity and supporting jobs in the near term and by reaping longer run productivity gains sooner.

Every state and territory will benefit, with significant transport projects to be accelerated in all jurisdictions – all within the context of our $100 billion ten-year infrastructure investment plan.

This bring forward of investment is in addition to the new infrastructure commitments we have made in drought-affected rural communities since the election.

In his address Morrison is also expected to announce the first stages of the government’s latest deregulation agenda, aimed at enabling business investment projects to begin faster.

Now a rational fact based assessment of Australia's economy.

Why we’ve the weakest economy since the global financial crisis, with few clear ways out
Peter Martin September 4, 2019 7.56pm AEST

The Australian economy is tepid, with consumer spending the weakest in ten years, business investment shrinking, and economic growth too weak to cover population growth.

Were it not for very strong growth in export income and the biggest surge in government spending in 15 years, the economy would have shrunk.

The Treasury believes the Australian economy is capable of growing at a sustained annual pace of 2.75%. The growth rate in the past financial year of 1.4% reported on Wednesday is only half that.

Not since September 2009 has the gap between what the Australian economy is capable of and what it has been delivering been so wide. 2009 was the year of the global financial crisis.

Angry Bammy sneaks out to bad mouth anything new and successful.

While the hopeless Labor dribbles on about increasing wasteful unproductive Socialist WELFARE the REAL POWER GOVT hits the gas and roars to life switching the real Australia on with massive infrastructure growth which has lasting benefit to Australia.

Wonder what the new legislation to keep the disruptive Greenies down in their burrows will be ?

Road, rail cash aims to give economic kick

The Morrison government plans to pump $1.78 billion into the economy over the next 18 months through spending more on roads and rail projects.

Over the next four years, it will put on the table $3.8 billion in fast-tracked spending, including $1 billion in new cash.

About a third of that will be spent in Queensland.

Western Australia will have a $868 million injection while the South Australia deal announced on Monday was for $415 million.

Announcements for the other states and territories are anticipated in coming days.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it was important that governments of all persuasions could work together to get more money into the economy.

"What we've been able to do over the last six months ... we've painstakingly gone through this process of identifying the projects that can be brought forward," he told reporters in Brisbane on Wednesday.

"You don't just rush in to spending $3.8 billion, spraying it around out of a hose."

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the extra funding would go a long way to creating jobs in regional Australia.

"What we want to see is more hi-vis on the ground. What we want to see is more excavators pushing dirt around," he told reporters.

The government has lionised its $100 billion infrastructure pipeline since the April federal budget but has faced criticism in recent months about the speed of its delivery.

Labor, big banks, economists and the Reserve Bank have called for the government to bring forward some of the planned projects to stimulate the economy.

Shadow treasurer Jim Chalmers says the calls have been vindicated.

"For months now in the face of all of those calls from all of those organisations the government's been saying that their policy settings are bang-on and that the fundamentals of the economy are strong," he told ABC Radio.

"With this announcement today I think we can conclude that the government has been wrong all along."

Mr Morrison will reiterate his approach to economic management in a speech on Wednesday night, saying his government is providing $9.5 billion in support at a challenging time.

This includes the infrastructure bring-forward as well as the personal income tax cuts and extra drought relief done since the May election.

The prime minister is expected to trumpet his apparent successful economic management in the speech, contrasting it with what he says is Labor's instinct to panic and spend.

"A panicked reaction to contemporary challenges would amount to a serious misdiagnosis of our economic situation," he will tell the Business Council of Australia's annual dinner in Sydney.

"A responsible and sensible government does not run the country as if it is constantly at DEFCON 1 (maximum US defence readiness) the whole time, whether on the economy or any other issue.

"It deals with issues practically and soberly."

With international interest rates so low it is a fantastic time to borrow money for massive nation building infrastructure projects.

How will ScoMo keep a foot on the neck of the disruptive frothing at the mouth Lunatic Extremist Greenies who will try to stop any and all development?

Bias, those are EXISTING projects.

The NEW projects are supposed to also boost rural areas.

With money so cheap it is a fantastic time to borrow billions and kick off the Bradfield Scheme and new dams and new HELE clean coal power stations.

Makes Labor look like a bunch of maiden aunts.

It took six years of government before someone finally decided to ask an economist how to fix the economy.

Minister: "We tried giving people tax cuts, but they just put the money in index funds. We thought they'd spend it on things, like milk."

Adviser: "Most of the tax cuts went to people who already have plenty of money for things. They aren't just going to buy more things."

Minister: "Then how are we supposed to get people to buy more things?"

Adviser: "Well, the government could buy things for people."

Minister: "We should buy milk for people?"

Adviser: "That's not the worst idea anyone's had."

The Big Mac is quite funny how he tries to twist everything around to the Depression that Labor would have created if they had gotten in.

Are the Chinese still paying bribes to the Labor Party and the unions ?

The first thing that came to mind for me when I saw this thread was that socko (juLIAR) had put in a space by mistake.

Should be inaction not in action.

Definitely more accurate for this do nothing government.

Which is why I deleted a space from the subject line in reply #2.  Wink

Government inaction is one way of describing this do-nothing, good-for-nothing, bunch of corrupt clown muppets we've got running the country into the ground.
