Nine News

A man has died and another is in a critical condition in one of three workplace accidents in just three hours in Sydney this morning.
Emergency services were called to a pallet factory at Forrest Road in St Marys in the south-west of the city about 5.40am after reports of an accident.
NSW Ambulance deployed four crews and a medical specialist team.

The 30-year-old man suffered severe head injuries and major blood loss after being stuck in machinery.
Emergency services managed to get him out and loaded him into an ambulance, but he couldn't be saved.   Sad

"Safework is attending a worksite at St Mary's this morning after a worker became trapped in a machine. The worker sustained crush injuries," a spokesperson told 9news.com.au.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Meanwhile, a worker was later injured in an accident in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

The worker is believed to have fallen from around eight metres from scaffolding at a waterside property in Point Piper at 7.45am.
Six crews were dispatched, including a specialist medical team
He is in a critical condition at St Vincent's Hospital with head and leg injuries.
The third incident was in Pyrmont, where steel pipes fell and hit a man on the head in Miller Street at 8am.
He was treated for a head and neck injury and he taken RPA Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Ambulance bosses said workplace accidents are becoming more common.

NSW Ambulance Acting Deputy Director Jordan Emery, said: "Incidents at worksites are not only confronting, but can be extremely complex and it shows just how quickly any situation can change.
"Paramedics have attended far too many workplace incidents lately - it's becoming more and more frequent.  "These situations are harrowing for emergency services, fellow workers and of course the families – emergency services work together under these tense conditions to do everything they can for the patient.
"Often we are dealing with both minor incidents, but we are also dealing with major incidents were people have been seriously injured, or more tragically where a life has been lost.

Cheaper costs mean bigger corners cut. Pretty simple really.
If something is unsafe on an EBA site...you speak up and it gets fixed.
If something is unsafe with Bob the builder and you speak up....you get a DCBT.

If it was in China everyone would have been back to work as soon as the ambulance left.

"Statistics show that unionised workplaces are safer than those lacking union representation.

"Workers in a unionised workplace are 70 per cent more likely to be aware of OHS hazards and issues."

Ballarat construction worker dies in wall collapse at Mount Pleasant home

ABC News
September 11 2019

A construction worker demolishing a house in Ballarat this morning has died after a brick wall collapsed on top of him.   Shocked

The wall collapsed about 9:00am at Kenworthy Place in Mount Pleasant.

WorkSafe is investigating the collapse and inspectors have been interviewing neighbours in nearby streets.

Police are yet to formally identify the man and will prepare a report for the coroner.

Steven Slater was among a group of fencing workers who were supposed to be working at the site today.

Mr Slater said he had been on his way to the site when he got a call from his boss telling him about the incident and asking him if he was OK.

"It's not real good to go to work and have that happen," he said.

"It's just not right."

His workmate Tim Wilson said the reality of the situation was still sinking in.

"That could have been us down there this morning," he said.

"It could be one of us that's not going to go home to see their family tonight.

The evident solution is to place workplace signs saying "beware of falling scaffolders".

I have seen such graffiti in a workplace.

Please don't thank me. Effusive fawning and obeisance of disciples, mendicants, and foot-kissers embarrass me.
