The Vic PS has 30,000 employees

Are you saying that all the previous employees were sacked and 300,000 new employees were hired and then 270,000 were then sacked or made redundant to get to the current 30,000 employees or is it that your claim is 100% rubbish

What about the consultants such as KPMG,EY, Delloite etc that they keep paying megabucks to do the jobs they should be doing themselves ??

The public service love to contract out as much work as possible.

Mostly they are forced to outsource because of under employment.

Poor Public Servants - everyone is against them.

But the ScoMo Messiah will lead them up to the light on the hill and Salvation.

ScoMo just wants to smash up the Public Servant mentality and bring on a Trump like get the job done transformation.

This efficiency drive would NEVER happen under a Socialist "Govt". They would just bloat the Public Service.

Predictably the CPSU is horrified and no doubt is preparing strike action.

Bureaucracy set for shake-up with new boss
Katina Curtis, AAP Senior Political Writer 25 July 2019

...
Treasury Secretary Philip Gaetjens will take over as the next head of the public service

Scott Morrison wants to shake up the public service and he's sent his former right-hand man to do the job.

Labor will take a wait and see approach to the prime minister's decision to promote his former chief of staff and current Treasury head Phil Gaetjens to become Australia's most senior public servant.

But it has concerns about what might be planned.

Mr Morrison is preparing to make significant changes to the public sector, based on the draft recommendations of a review led by former Telstra head David Thodey.

He wants Mr Gaetjens, as the new Prime Minister and Cabinet boss, to spearhead a fresh "culture of service" in the bureaucracy.

Less than a week after the May election, he told public servants to brace for a hectic three years and "very clear" performance targets.

He's also spoken about the need to clear red tape that frustrates getting services to people.

He made it clear on Thursday the public service should not drive policy.

"It is the job of the public service to advise you of the challenges that may present to a government in implementing its agenda," he told reporters in Canberra.

"The public service will rightly, and always do, in my experience, be very full and frank in what they say to me as prime minister. But once the government policy is set, it's their job to implement it."

Labor pointed to the coalition's track record in cutting back services and jobs, and its plan to find $5 billion in savings from government departments over the next decade.

"We know that there is a lot of upheaval coming our way," opposition public service spokeswoman Katy Gallagher told reporters.

"Mr Morrison has chosen his former chief of staff to be the head guy to implement all that.

"It paints a picture that we have concerns about in terms of what is coming for the public service."

The Community and Public Sector Union says there are arbitrary impediments to service delivery, including a cap on the number of bureaucrats.

"The numbers don't add up: we simply don't have enough workers to deliver and implement government policy for all Australians," national secretary Nadine Flood said.

Mr Gaetjens will take over when Martin Parkinson departs in August.

Department of Infrastructure boss Steven Kennedy will be the next Treasury secretary, and Mr Morrison has reserved his right to make further changes as he sees fit.

Mr Morrison insisted Mr Gaetjens' promotion was based purely on merit.

"This is not uncommon that people have worked in the political sphere and the bureaucratic sphere," he said, citing a long list of senior public servants who had worked for Labor ministers.

Dr Parkinson initially planned to retire when his term ended in 2021 but Mr Morrison said they had agreed "it was time for some new leadership".

Dr Parkinson, a 40-year public service veteran who stepped into the role under former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull in 2016, said he wanted to give Mr Morrison the chance to work with a new department head.

ScoMo's Trump style approach will send fear and chills up the Public service.

How long before the CPSU organizes a strike ?

Morrison overhauls public service
Xinhua  July 26, 2019

CANBERRA (Xinhua) – Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Thursday announced a sweeping overhaul of the nation’s public service.

The prime minister told News Corp Australia that he will oversee a significant shake-up of all 18 departments and 100 agencies of the government to ensure that they are serving the “quiet Australians.”

“We don’t expect the public service to run the government. That’s what we were elected to do,” he said.

“In my ¬experience, the public service ¬always works best when it has strong guidance and leadership.”

“That is what they will get from me and my ministerial team.”

“My view of the public service is straightforward: respect and ¬expect — respect their capabilities, and expect them to get on board and implement the government’s agenda,” Morrison said.

The overhaul is expected to begin with changes in senior positions within the bureaucracy.

Martin Parkinson, the secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, has confirmed that he will step down from as Australia’s highest-ranking bureaucrat at the end of August, two years before his term is set to expire.

The decision will allow Morrison to hand-pick a replacement that can serve for the entirety of this term of Parliament, which expires in 2022.

Morrison, who appointed himself as the minister for the Public Service, flagged further changes in the senior ranks of bureaucracy in what could be the biggest shake-up of the public service since former Prime Minister Bob Hawke cut 28 portfolios to 18 in the 1980s.

“For a government to be successful, it must always harness and engage the skills and capabilities of the public service to deliver the government’s agenda,” he said.

“This will enable departments to get on with the job, providing advice and services, busting ¬bureaucratic bubbles where it is needed and always adopting a very outward-looking, community-facing approach.”

I have heard that claim on the radio so many times -
it could have been referring to Australian public servants but not just Victorian.
I can't find it online for the life of me so I withdraw it.

However I did find this
https://careers.vic.gov.au/victorian-public-sector

"The Victorian public sector is a 300,000 strong workforce employed by the Victorian Government
to provide services and support for Victorians.

You do know that the Public service and the public sector are not the same thing, likely the reason for some confusion. The Public service is only a small part of the public sector. The public sector includes the Police, firemen hospital workers, school teachers etc.

Moreover, it mainly is not businesses creating employment at the moment.
Over the past 12 months, eight out of 10 new jobs have been in the public sector.

In other words, the Government is literally creating most of the jobs directly.

"So the quarterly ABS data on employment growth by industry and sector shows that in the past 12 months you've seen 310,000 jobs created in the public sector, while only 54,000 have been created in the private sector," UBS economist Carlos Cacho said.

That must have been what I heard so I withdraw my retraction
& you can now apologise to me.

Happy to apologise if you like but as I said in the previous post we were talking about different things. The topic is on the Public service and you are talking public sector.

It is a big question mark that 8/10 jobs have been created in the PS in the last year nationally (Not Vic).

This shows that private sector employment is in extreme crisis with the economy doing much worse than we thought. More numbers hidden till after the election by a very poor performing government and supporting government authorities happy to cover up their poor performance and support their lies.

Ahhh the old Liberal lets cut the public service jobs.

It fails to recognise that what inevitably happens is that within 6 months, they realise they don't have enough staff to do all the work, so they hire everyone on 2 yr contracts which are then turned into full time anyway.

Want to cut the public service, you don't cut staff, you cut the BS they have to do.

Example, one of my friends positions in Education was to formulate responses on behalf of the Minister from members of the public.

Some of those letters were purely idiotic in nature. E.g. a uni student who had been terminated from university for poor marks was writing to see if the Minister could get them reinstated.

Its pointless but the job needed to be done.

The Lefties are apologizing for the public service.

If Labor had got in they would have simply bloated the public service.

How is merely describing what they do and pointing out the reality of the need for the work, apologising.

He could learn a thing from you in how you duck and weave answering questions or providing citations to your claims, that you spam, over and over and over again.

You're not really in a position to ask anyone else to do anything after your behaviour.
