It would be lunacy not to shower every advantage on the most talented.

We do this with sport and the AIS.

So with academia, we should ensure our gifted students are not held back by the chodes

See part of the deal is getting to know other important people's kids for future business contacts.

So a private school is essential.

So if you can afford it send your kids to private school but don't expect the taxpayers to pay for it

The money kicked in by the taxpayer is usually a lot less than the per child rate of a public school.

I guess we could could go your way and people who opt out of public schools could get a tax rebate. Sounds fair.

I went to a public high and a private school, which cohort was dumber? Yep, the private.

Yeah, private schools have more money because the parents pay fees. The amount from the Govt is less. A lot less. Read your article next time.

Chief executive of the Association of Independent Schools of NSW Geoff Newcombe said: "Differences in school income are due to fees collected from parents who choose to use their after-tax dollars to contribute to the cost of their child's education, rather than spending on other discretionary items."

It's a good deal for the taxpayer.  I know the per child contribution at my daughter's school is 25% of what the local highschool gets.
