where have the real jumpers gone?
Aug 5th, 2019 at 2:56pm

Big, heavy, thick woolen - and most importantly - warm jumpers. Why can't I buy them any more? Whenever I shop for them, I can only find light, thin ones that are not the least bit warm.

Why? Do people not feel the cold any more? Or does everyone make do with jackets or hoodies?

If anyone knows any shops that sell real jumpers - please list them!

I haven't owned a jumper since I was about 10 years old.

Don't like 'em.

Oh, you're in Canberra.

I suppose you need them there.

I hardly ever wear more than a shirt in Perth.

I might use a jacket for a couple of weeks of the year, but only if I'm walking home or at an outdoor venue.

Never had the need for a jumper.

Get an old lady to knit you one Smiley. Theres a shop in Braddon that has some wintery stuff but its very expensive. I paid about $300 for a puffy jacket there.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing.

cods is in Canberra too: provide her with the wool, and she can knit you one while she watches The Block and Married at first Sight on TV.

I grew up on a farm and mum used to spin our own wool and then knit our jumpers. Maybe thats why I am partial to proper big woolen jumpers.

Sadly, mum ditched the spinning wheel and no longer knits Sad

The best way to keep warm is layers rather than one thick jumper, but a good merino jumper is versatile. I'd hit the outdoor shops.

The Sovereign State of Denial... an independent duchy neither part of Australia nor of anywhere else... sort of like Berwick.. not part of England or Scotland...  Cool

Problem is that people don't want to hand-wash "woolens", they want to throw them into the washing machine ... a great way to shrink such garments. Thus the 95% acrylic 5% wool .... or whatever.

I know what you mean though ... nice, warm, bulky jumpers, that feel nice and warm and you don't need to wear much anything under it but a vest.  Wink

Its climate change, hardly anyone in Australia needs a jumper anymore, maybe in southern Tasmania but elsewhere an exacto windcheater and t shirt would do.

The Milwaukie electrified jacket could be an option if you really feel the cold.

Flowers are blooming, the neighbour's lemon tree has come out in bloom already... magpies are singing and birds are chasing one another ... winter is a thing of the past.

I got a thick grey woolen one for about $10 somewhere a few years ago. Forget where. Only wore it a few times, working nights in Melbourne in winter. Even there it was a bit too warm, with all the layers I had on.

Wander round the DFOs and places like that. You'll find them.

By themselves, they are useless because the wind goes straight through them. The lightweight synthetic ones are just as good as a heavy woolen ones, and people don't think you're some kind of weirdo.

Canberra is in the minuses most mornings and while its warmer than previous years its still cold. Daytime though seem like spring or autumn

My fake leather jacket is enough for me. But it does not get much more use than 2 weeks of the year.
