And may i say that it is precisely this kingd of sensationalism and misinformation that stands directly in the way of procuring the best outcomes for girls and women both iat risk for FGC and who have survived FGC.

They themselves want it to cease once and for all. If we in Australia legitimise these practices, however ritualistically, it will totally negate their work, their beliefs and their futures. Now is not the time to succumb to this tradition.

Anyone who wasn't asleep learned to their distress about this vile tradition years ago

it results in

infections locally and in urinary tract

severe pain, difficulty and sometimes death in childbirth

obviously causes agony while performed, often via use of rusty/filthy razor blades

desexualisation of the victim lifelong

Thousands of clinical papers online in addition to further thousands of media articles for those with an interest in learning more

and the reason for mutilation of girls' primary sexual organs is ....? What's the justification from the practitioners ? What, if any, are the alleged benefits?

migrants are prevented now from taking their daughters overseas in order to have them mutilated, despite it is not a requirement of Islam, according to Islamic authorities

taking a child overseas is not inexpensive

having one's child mutilated and trying to fly that child back to the host country when it's now illegal to do so, could only be the result of very strong motivation

whilst 'following tradition' might be partial motivation, what possible benefit for the child is to be gained by mutilating it?

do you know, because if so, I at least would be interested in what you might have to contribute

There is no medical reason for the procedure, which can result in infections, shock, bleeding, chronic pain, reproductive issues and death.

I think it covers mothras question on WHAT PROCEDURE

This is delusional.

What you said does not make any sense. If you go down the basic side of things, the whole thing about FGM is about control. Control as in if I .. the authority can control your body by cutting you, 'marking' you at birth, then I get to keep your fertility under my control. Thats simply it. Its not purely about religion, its about control. Its something conjured up by mankind, carried out by mankind. FGM is about control and abuse.

HOWEVER, by recognizing and respecting the lawful practice of someone's faith, is the exact opposite of control and abuse. I encourage to at least read in to the 2013 UNCEF report on FGM before you make such an outrages statement.
