As if it's not happening to children born here.

Wow you're on the good gear today.
I posted a link and a clear quote.

Here's some more for you.

An Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report estimated that 53,000 girls and women born elsewhere, but now living in Australia, have undergone FGM or cutting. However, this report excluded women from many countries where FGM is practiced, including Indonesia

No FGM Australia estimates the number of girls born in Australia who are at high risk of FGM has more than tripled to 3,876 per year.

And may i say that it is precisely this kingd of sensationalism and misinformation that stands directly in the way of procuring the best outcomes for girls and women both iat risk for FGC and who have survived FGC.

Being used as a political football.

Some idiot, Peez i think, was demanding answers to this topic from "the forum feminist" ... clearly meaning me, although he was too gutless to ask me directly.

The answer is, there is no point discussing it on this forum. None at all. It is only counter-productive. I do my work elsewhere. I have tried on here and failed.

From the article:

Quote:
Female genital mutilation refers to all procedures involving partial or total removal of or injury to the external female genitalia or genital organs, such as stitching of the labia majora or pricking of the clitoris. It is performed on women and girls at a range of ages, including babies.

As I suspected - they are lumping in the least intrusive procedure, whats known as "symbolic nicking", in which little or no actual flesh is removed, with full-blown butchering off the entire clitoris and/or inner labia.

The latter is completely barbaric, while the first is basically harmless.

While not endorsing any kind of female circumcision, it is dishonest and misleading not to make this distinction IMO.

A Govt report is sensationalism?

You just don't want to acknowledge it's happening.
You'd rather it all be swept under the rug.

And one of the reasons the term FGC is preferable.

And i stand by the statement that absolutely nobody has any right whatsoever to do anything to any girl that goes beyond changing a nappy ... unless you are required to for that child's benefit.
