Wallow in the ignorance of how lucky you are to be alive, Gnads.

I never doubt it Yesterdays Hero.

Did I hit a nerve?

I dunno. You are the one that shot yourself in the foot.

How so?

In your fanciful mind maybe ..... do you honestly think your local neighbourhood Cliff Hardy exploits elevate you to some sort of serviceman status?

Saving the lives of people, helping uplift the community standards, ridding the community of drug problems (or at least reducing the impact), and even helping to deprogramme religious lunatics of their mind-controlled bullshyte is barely amateur hour stuff. But that is a distraction tactic to the fact of the forum topic that people have a right to speak or not speak (including whether they want to sing) for their country.

Yep ...... but it wasn't about "not singing". It was about politicising their decision not to.

Leave it out of sport.

I can't understand why for someone that has done so much for his community you've been long term unemployed?

Health reasons?

I have allegedly a job lined up that pays well and should be good for someone like me. But, at the moment, I still have to contend with one of the employers making unreasonable conditions that I don't want to abide. So, unless the next employer makes the concession to leave off that stupid condition, I will be stuck in this part-time job I have currently. And I have other job offers in the Rockhampton Regional Council related that I might be able to get.

Health reasons have been one of the reasons why I have been underemployed so long. Mental health being part of the health considerations from year 2006 to 2008. I have been capable of doing more since year 2009. But work have told me to just relax as I have a decent job being set up for me. But that was 9 years ago, and I have kind of wondered what has happened.

Below is a post Raven wrote in another thread

It would appear that the silent protest from indigenous players has support from an unlikely source, Liberal MP Craig Kelly.

Kelly says 'a lot of Australians' would back national anthem re-wording and suggests we could change the anthem from 'young and free' to 'strong and free.'

"These words of our national anthem are not something carved in stone, " Kelly told AM.

"If these gentlemen said [they] would be happy to sing the national anthem with changing that one word, I think a lot of Australians would sit down and they would say, OK let's change that word," he told AM.

Kelly is an unexpected source of support for a re-wording. Kelly has long opposed other social changes — such as same-sex marriage — and is an influential voice in the Coalition's conservative wing.

Before being adopted in 1984 as the official National Anthem, the lyrics, penned by Scottish composer Peter Dodds McCormick, were changed to remove fawning references to "Brittania" and England.

the lyrics have been changed before to include women, it used to be 'Australia's sons let us rejoice', instead of 'Australians all let us rejoice' ....

there is absolutely no reason why it counldn't be tweaked again to include Aborigines

Johnathan Thurston did a great job of the lead-in speech - regardless of having to check his notes once - and put it in perspective - All For One and One For All!

A true Elder Statesmen for the Indigenous.

I'd say leave it at that - and if you don't want to play for Australia - kindly step aside for someone who will.

I respect the ability of players - but when they make it a political issue over essentially nothing, given that they are among the more privileged in society overall - I draw the line.

Get with it or get out....

Again from a previous post Raven made in another thread.

Divisive is a deceptive notion upon which to base any argument about protest because it contains an often false assumption — that the subject of protest is inherently inclusive and, as such, can only be undermined and never enhanced to the benefit of all.

Cody Walker said — in the most measured and respectful manner possible — he would not sing the national anthem because it does not represent him or his family.

"I'm not pushing my view on anyone, it's just how me and my family have grown up and how I feel," Walker told Nine Media, making it abundantly clear he is not seeking to demean or overshadow State of Origin but merely to exercise a personal right.

While the silent protest has gained inevitable media traction, the more remarkable outcome is the absence of the kind of rancour that could usually have been expected had an Indigenous Australian player engaged in what would once have been portrayed as "un-Australian" and, yes, "divisive" behaviour.

On the contrary, it seems unlikely anyone will jeer Walker and Addo-Carr when they respectfully maintain their silence during Advance Australia Fair.

Rather, their demonstration is less confronting because it comes with the tacit support of the NRL at a time when the game is demonstrating genuine leadership in the often contentious realm of Indigenous affairs.

True - but what problem do you have about 'inclusion' of Aboriginals  in Australia?  After all - it IS their native land...... same as it is ours...... (hello, turkey).....*

Good idea, dear. Instead of golden strains, put in tinted.

They do make good singers, you know.

nothing in the op to say he was asked to comment on his abstinence   in the mean time

Except for him saying he didn't really want to talk about it and didn't know what the fuss was all about.

He didn't want to talk about it ... yet he did ...

why do you think that was?

He was asked the question just out of the blue?

Naff off Mothballs ... he told someone ... he made it an issue.

First time selected for State of Origin football and that ends up being the main concern. Roll Eyes

He answered a question. The horror.

from a newspaper journalist mothra...

he would have had to know where it was going...

and as mentioned in the article  some people want it talked about...

isnt that the point of TALKING....not arguing talking and discussing an issue that to some people is important.....

when they end up in anger or bitch fighting it solves nothing....

how do we fix this PROBLEM.... not my problem  their problem....

my suggestion is another verse added to the anthem...

maybe a new line or two  change a word or two...

everything can be fixed  sometimes with ease  others not....but they can be fixed..

what do you say about FIXING THIS PROBLEM?

I think we need a new anthem, Cods.

I think this one ... but we could just do the chorus for events and stuff:

I actually don't mind that tune by Bruce Woodley(The Seeekers) ...

but the chorus isn't enough for an anthem.

How about this song?

It's from a legendary Australian band, and it has a catchy chorus which sums up the Aussie attitude:
