Seriously? Does someone in this thread think Ivan molar isn't guilty? Not that you would take my word for it but when I was a lot younger I lived in a town he frequented. Everyone in that town avoided him. We all knew he had screws loose and it was common knowledge that he killed ppl at the drop of a hat. The authorities knew it too but couldn't do anything because they didn't have evidence.

what do you mean   everyone knew he killed ppl.???????  please explain.

He was off his trolley and always had a rifle on him. Figure of speech (except for the police I suspect)....

How odd is that when Milat was caught...no more killings in the area.  Just an extraordinary coincidence I suppose.

Not really. If it was a different killer they'd could have used that as a chance to move to a different area or change their MO.

So...where is their harvest?

I'm not suggesting there is another killer, but hypothetically if there was, they could use Milat's capture and conviction as a chance to make a clean break.

Killers tend to kill. They wouldn't have broken for long.

A killer who knows he/she will die by execution is a far more dangerous and desperate killer.
Killers who think they will just get 20 years for murder, tend to ease off the accelerator a bit, for the 'fear' of their own death isn't as apparent to them, if caught.

Nations with the Death Penalty have a higher rate of violence, by far, than nations that don't. So obviously the Death Penalty DOES NOT WORK.

So how does a nation punish a Murderer?

Well making Prisons where the Prisoners are 'harder' than the Prison, is not a good start. Which is where Australia has found itself due to Human Rights of Prisoners over-riding, the Human Rights of the Public.

So where do we go from here?

I know the Anita Cobby murderers 'fear' being  released because they know they will themselves be killed by the Public, willing to pay for someone to do it, if not themselves. Atm - they have got it pretty good in Prison, although at the start they got a hammering from the Prisoners on the inside... very ironic  Roll Eyes But those Prisoners didn't do it for the Public or Anita - they did it for their own sick pleasure at the new 'fresh meat'.

So where do we go from here?
Can we send them away to some other country, where they can do the dirty work against some indigenous peoples, we wish to depose?
Can we put them to work as 'free labour' (Slavery)?
Can we devoid them of all stimulation in a Prison that does the job of breaking down everything about them as a 'killer', before any semblance of 'Rehabilitating' them?
Well that's a good start - but after that?

Do you think they will go to 'HELL' to burn in some Religious fire with no virgins, etc?  Roll Eyes After 'Death' it matters not much. Sure, Mary McKillop, was made a Saint - so there is the benefit of her family, friends, decendents, etc getting some good grace from her life. As the Milat family and associates will not, down the track.
But do you think the Convicts of Australia will find 'peace' after their 'past' crimes? Hence, why no 'domestic political' patriotism (like USA) is given here unless they are labelled 'White Extremists'.

Life Sentence - Nil parole for Murder is better than Execution, but our Prison's must tow the line and make them wish that they were dead.

In the USA there are plenty of cases where serial killers go dormant for a long period of time.

It depends on how bad his dementia is.  Does he still remember what he did.  If not, its another body suffering.

A psychopath with dementia is exactly that.

And quite possibly even more high risk.

Still, that is absolutely no excuse not to treat him with all of the humanity we can offer.

Yes like the humanity he showed his victims.  Roll Eyes
