So...Hawke has died.  It would not matter what side you come from...Hawke is a political icon....up there with the best.

I dips me lid to him.  (I don't do that often or even at all.)

“I gladly acknowledge the debt
of my own government to
Fabianism. The Fabian Society
acknowledges the principal tenet
of Marxism – the abolition of private
property, in this case to own
land. They then align themselves
with the non-violent arm of
Marxism by accepting the nonviolent
road of patient gradualism
to total government.”
“For the right moment you
must wait, as Fabius did, most
patiently, when warring against
Hannibal, though many censured
his delays; but when the
time comes, you must strike
hard, as Fabius did, or all your
waiting will be in vain and fruitless.”

Bob Hawke, Labor government
Prime Minister of Australia, in
his infamous speech to the Fabian Society
in Melbourne on the 8th May 1984.

commie labor scum would love to turn Australia into communist China ,

Bob Hawke has freely admitted this ..

He was Labor's longest serving PM. I met him several times, once at the urinal in old Parliament House back in the 1980s. He shook my hand (after he'd washed his) and wished me well in a job interview. He knew my father. He was a great man. Vale, Bob.   Cry

Someone said we could not judge a person's Aboriginality on their skin colour.  Why isn't that applied in the matter of Pascoe?  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I only met him once.

I drove him to a fundraiser dinner here in Perth a few years ago.

He was a cranky old bugger, but a legend nonetheless.

A very sad loss for our country.

The one good thing is, a Labor government will be presiding over his funeral.
