Carnal takes this issue very personally.

Indeed. Karnal lives in Western Sydney, dear. His father's an immigrant from Mother England.

You?

Slums of Islammabad on the mother's side, however.

Slums of Watsons Bay on Mother's side, dear.

It was quite cheap during WWII.

Unrestrained immigration is changing the face of the Australian economy. It is causing resources and agriculture to become a shrinking component of the GDP while services are increasing and imports of manufactured goods are accelerating.

The Australian economy is not booming so strongly that it needs unrestrained immigration.

Yes, but immigration itself can be a pump-primer.

There are certain skills we need - particularly in rural areas.

I think our problems could be solved if we just made it mandatory for certain skilled immigrants to live in certain rural areas.

If we can import labour based on skills, surely we can place those skills where they're needed. This could rejuvenate rural areas and regional towns. I'm not sure what the obstacle to this is.

True, but they often need anal clearance, dear. Sometimes they slip, you see, and get a bottle accidentally inserted in their rectums.

A simple mistake to make, and more common than you'd think.

True - told you you were right on the mark twice a day... such an 'economy' is artificial because the skills pool will run dry and be diluted long before it remains stable .... we have no need for unskilled labour at this time....

Indeed, but given Australia's immigration program - unlike the US - is skills-based, your point is irrelevant.

Since when have refugees from the ME & nth Africa been a "skills" based exercise?

That's laughable when they are deporting skilled residents who not only got their qualifications here they've also had children here.

Refugees are not part of the skilled migration intake, Gonads.

If Australia is deporting skilled residents Gnads is in no danger.

What do you mean by this?

I ask because someone i care very much about is about to undertake a IT course under a student VISA with the hope of staying here.

The crazy thing in his case is that he has to quit full time employment (3yrs duration) to undertake the course at massively inflated prices. He's been living here for about 5 years.

IT itself is not a job class. There is a big list of professions under 'computer'. You need to be selective and talk to the university which will tell you what areas it is ramping up to meet projected shortages.

Thanks for that. I will read and passon.

Problem is he can't afford university sois stuck with private colleges. He can go on payment plans with some of them ... uni and TAFE demand upfront fees and as he can't work, he's financially dependant on his partner ... who is on an award.

They're going into debt to get the VISA in the first place, which is $4,500.

Are you worked to the bone? Are you advocating adding goat husbandry to the immigration skills list?
