It's illegal to speed too.

Tell me Aussie, how many people do you think broke the speed limit on Australian roads today?

I'm curious.

That's assuming you can get the taxi service in the first place. There's a reason so many Sydney inner-westies use Uber for airport trips - cabs won't take the fare

Exactly.

Aussie mentioned getting a cab at midnight   Grin

I don't know if you've ever been to Perth Aussie, but it's very difficult to get a taxi at midnight here (after 10pm, they just aren't interested).

And, if it's a Saturday night, forget about it. You have NO chance.

If you can get through to the operator, they'll say they're sending the first available cab.

If you wait until 5 or 6 in the morning, you might just get your ride (maybe).

You think I'm joking? - come to Perth and try it for yourself.

I'm not paying twice the money for half the service, no matter how many times you call them scabs.

Only an idiot would do such a thing.

Generally speaking, taxis are dirty & smelly, and the drivers are arrogant and grumpy.

Not always, but generally speaking.

100% of the times that I've been in an Uber, they've been clean & air-conditioned, and the drivers have been friendly and polite.

Moreover, the Uber fares are always at least 50% less than that of a taxi.

I have sympathy for struggling taxi drivers, however, the taxi companies have been screwing us punters for too long.

It's about time we got something going our way.

The taxi industry had ages to lift their game after Uber arrived but thought they were arrogant and thought things would never change.

The booking system for companies like 1300cabs is now better but it's still a 50/50 change you'll get a sewer on wheels.

Uber are 100% perfect every time. No 2GB or Indian music blaring at you and you get interesting and polite drivers.

My mum reckons most of them even help her in with the shopping.

I am not a taxi user... so cannot talk about service..

what I am talking about is.. the unfairness that someone who has bought a business... and thats what a taxi licence is.. a business.

which until UBER   it was required by govt made laws....to have one.......

same as a liquor licence..

imagine someone setting up a stall selling grog at lower prices because they dont have to buy a liquor licence????...

these people in good faith.. bought this business maybe for their retirement  ... and suddenly its worthless....

because of convenient rule changes...

I would be devastated to be honest and I doubt anyone of you  would shrug and walk away.....if you had paid a fortune  either.... Angry Angry

a lot of decent people are affected by this......

as fair go aussies   you should be behind these owner drivers

I dont care what country they come from..they need our support...

I'd be behind the taxi owner drivers more if it wasn't for the fact that they've been ripping me off and giving me poor service for the last 35 years or so.

I don't want to see anyone lose their jobs, however, I'm not going to continue to pay outrageously inflated prices for an inferior service either.

That's just madness.

Uber gives me faster, more reliable, friendlier, cleaner, and a much cheaper service - I'd be crazy to go back to taxis.

If you had the choice between a dirty restaurant with rude waiters, seats smelling of cigarette smoke, second rate food, and a bill of $50 or, a clean, air-conditioned restaurant with friendly waiters, clean tables & chairs, fresh & tasty food, and a final bill of only $25, which would you choose?

like I pointed out greg   I havent used a taxi or uber in years.....so I cant say anything about service   and to tar all taxi owners with the same brush  is the same as calling all Muslims terrorists....

it isnt the right thing to do.. Angry

Please read my previous post, cods:

"Generally speaking, taxis are dirty & smelly, and the drivers are arrogant and grumpy.

"Not always, but generally speaking."

Thats a lot of BS, I use cabs fairly often and they are always clean and not smelly.

Well, that's good.

My experiences haven't been so good.

Until they lift their game (e.g. cut their fares in half), I won't be using taxis again.

So who pays their overheads ... that Uber & OLA doesn't have?

For you being someone who has been a worker advocate I find that an interesting turn.

I always speak to the drivers and ask them about their Uber experience.

The majority of the time - not all, but the majority - they say that they do it more as a hobby.

Something to get them out of the house and away from the kids/wife/husband/dogs/whatever for a while.

I haven't met one yet who says it's their fulltime job and/or that they're struggling to make ends meet.

So that justifies a business that in truth doesn't pay it's drivers enough, dodges the state & fed govt taxes and takes the profits off shore?

That doesn't sound like a thing you'd be into Peccar.

Just goes to show how many sides to a coin there really are.  Huh

Theiving arseholes in my opinion

Pay sfa to operate against taxis that pay something like $5000 per year! (in the ACT that is )

Not to mention the vast sums what some have paid for the TAXI licences in the past!

Bah!!!!  Sad

It's not the Uber drivers' fault that those ridiculous fees apply to taxi drivers.

I feel sorry for the taxi drivers - I really do.

But, as a consumer, paying (at least) twice the price for half the service is pure insanity.

I resisted using Uber for a very long time, as I though the taxi industry might lift its game.

Well, it didn't.

They've had a monopoly for too long, and now they don't know how to handle competition.

Geesus Peccar ..... it's not competition unless it's fair.

Allowing Uber & now Ola an unfair advantage is far from competition.

It's a deliberate act of sabotaging a legally operating business.

A level playing field should be the first consideration in creating competition.

Shouldn't you be adhering to that principle first?

I got a cab back from the CBD today as my phone was nearly flat.

Not long after I got in the driver started going off about the Uber court case and telling me how bad they were, all while he was stick in a right turn bay when we were going straight, then when he pulled out he nearly hit another car.

The rest of the trip was him talking about how he was voting for Clive Palmer.

Aussie, were you working in Sydney today?

Close to $7000.00 for CTP, Rego and comprehensive insurance with some 'workers compo' cover for drivers.

Good old Uber.  Drivers are getting very pissed off.  It was ever thus.  It has just taken these numpties a while to realise that they are being ripped off, large by Uber.

Link.

Read it, and never use an Uber again.
