'Gumby' Bowen the man who would be treasurer
Apr 25th, 2019 at 11:04am

Chris Bowen M.P.  hereafter to be known as 'Gumby' is the man who will be Treasurer in the new Labor Government

As time elapses, the reason for him being nominated as Gumby will become crystal clear

Can't wait for him to dust off the Keating: "This is the recession Australia had to have" speech.  Sad

At Last!!!!!   A man in a portfolio for which he is trained!

"Bowen was born in Sydney to Christine and Ross Bowen. His father worked for the National Roads and Motorists' Association, while his mother, who was born in the UK, was a childcare worker.[3][4] Bowen grew up in the suburb of Smithfield, where one of his neighbours was soccer player Harry Kewell. He began his education at Smithfield Public School, and later attended St Johns Park High School before going on to the University of Sydney,
where he graduated with a Bachelor of Economics in 1994."

Rather than the succession of limp wristed offerings the Coalition have had in the Treasurer position for the last few years, finally we will get a man who understands economics and can stand up to the Public Service Heads who wander the various portfolios in Parliament House.    Most MPs and Senators jump from portfolio to portfolio in reshuffles and I would say the majority have little to no knowledge of what is going on and rely far too heavily on their Departmental Heads to drive the policy.  Look at the disaster that was Hockey, then Morrison and the dreadful Frydenburg and tell me honestly that Bowen can be worse.    Somehow I doubt it

We have to have a recession thanks to libs...

A good treasurer will know when to stimulate the economy - and that means less surplus and more deficit in that case.

For those who don't do basic economics, a deficit budget stimulates the economy - a surplus slows it down.
'
We know the ALP are willing to go into deficit when necessary.  However based on past, the Coalition prefer to respond with surpluses in which case one can expect economy to get hit harder.

If the RBA needs to do further interest cuts, then it is trying to stimulate the economy, while the current Fed government is going in opposite direction.

Only Labor have the track record to manage us through the bad times,  compares Howard/ Peacocks recession to Keatings to see who the superior economic managers really are
