Turks in Auburn once told me hard.
That the Turkish during Gallipoli had nothing to fear from the Australian/NZ'ers.
Although the Indians lost many in the Campaign as well, they were considered a higher foe to face than Anzacs.
To the Turks, the Anzacs were not militarily competent and morale in the Turkish lines was very high.
Anzacs were like children playing with guns for the first time, it was said.
An unorganised rabble of reluctant 'loyalists' to the British Empire. There was no flame of Allah (god) in them (religious passion).
And then... "Little wonder they lost. They just had no historical military hardness. Many other nations could have either won or done better."
"Even at Beersheba, the Anzac win was a fluke. The fact that they had to resort to an 'old' method (horse charge), showed that they had nothing new and innovative to offer as Anzacs"
Jasin stop being a TNUC.
They died because they were sent to the wrong place & used as cannon fodder and they weren't alone.
The Turks were well dug in .......... after 8 months the Allies withdrew.
The Turks had 86,292 dead and 164,617 wounded a total of 251,309 casualties.
More than double the Allies. And the Turks won.
Allies - 44,150 dead
97,397 wounded
a total of 141,547 casualties.
Separately -
GB & Ireland - 21,255 dead,
52,230 wounded
Total casualties - 73,485
Australia - 8,709 dead,
19,441 wounded,
Total casualties - 28,150
France - 10,000 dead,
17,000 wounded
Total casualties - 27,000
New Zealand - 2,779 dead,
5,212 wounded
Total casualties - 7,991
India - 1,358 dead,
3,421 wounded
Total casualties - 4,779
Newfoundland - 49 dead
93 wounded
Total casualties - 142
So of the Allies the Poms had the greatest dead & wounded at Gallipoli.
Why can't you bastards show some respect for those who served, paid the ultimate sacrifice, were wounded or disabled(physically and mentally) as the day is meant to be?
instead of all your self righteous waffle.
