Cast your votes on who you think was the best 'Wild Man' of the Australian Bush (& Seas)?

Russell would be eaten to death by Mosquitos!  Grin

I picked Malcom Douglas - because he really did 'live' out there in the Bush amongst it all.

Exactly. The others were good for various reasons but for Mal it was his real life.

Steve Irwin was one of the best Snake/Crocodile Catchers come Conservationists come 'Media Entertainers'. But many of the old 'Pros' would say that a true Pro would never do the things Steve had to do to get 'ratings'. Steve went beyond his natural environment (Land) and into the Ocean to appease Producers and well... sadly, he made a silly mistake that is well known among many Divers: Never swim 'above' Rays.

David Ireland was mostly a Diving Adventurer - much like Ben Cropp, and both were pretty good about it. I once had a good emailing conversation with Ben Cropp. The guy had discovered over 100 Wrecks and the QLD Govt confiscated his 'Free to Public' Museum up in Port Douglas. They 'Stole' everything he found and recovered for the Public.

Les Hiddins (aka Bush Tucker Man) was a Military trained 'Survivalist' and was very well educated in 'living off the land'. Probably the most Professionally Trained, but he just didn't have the longevity or good Producers to make his Docos more entertaining.

Alby Mangles was out there. But he really was the 'Russell Coight' of the lot. It was more about 'him' than anything else. Surprised he didn't die out there with the many silly risks he took for sensationalism.

Harry Butler was well educated and very BBC in his delivery. Not a bad old fella.

I'm sure there were a few more, but they escape me at the moment.

I voted for Les Hiddins, bush tucker is pretty important. Had I been able to, I would also have voted for Malcom Douglas and Jack Absalom

Mal was a master at improvised cooking in the bush. Jack used an airtight bag to lift his 4wheel drive to change a wheel etc etc

He is a thug, criminal who posts bullshit at the sewer.  Read all of that Thread and you will see it for yourself.  Don't need to take my word for it.  He is Neferti's idol.  She loves pricks like that.
