Here's how they go,

Jack goes to new city for some reason, usually after some crime has been committed. He starts looking into it becasue, well, he's so smart.
Someone does not like him doing that so threatens and or tries to attack him but fails, well, because he's so big ans smart.
Somewhere near there, multiple guys try to beat him up, but he beats them up instead.
He get's some allies to help him, one of them is always a good looking woman who he will root at the end of the book.
Big shoot out the stretches the bounds of credibility, Jack kills one or more of them but for some reason, even though he attacked them, he will not be charged with murder or assault, he just gets to root the women.
Jack leaves for somewhere else.
The end.

I have 4 books at home here. I read two during the week I had off during the 2015 cyclone. I quite enjoy the books on Jack Reacher. Unfortunately, the movies did the character no favours as it had the 5ft 7inch tall Tom Cruise playing a 6ft 5-inch tall former army officer.

The books allow you to use your own imagination.
