Here is the energy balance diagram for our Earth, explained in IPCC FAQ 1.1. The “Back Radiation” makes the greenhouse effect. It is larger than the solar radiation reaching the ground, and measured by a global radiation measurement network.

Yes. The back radiation. Where in physics is that explained? Grin Grin Grin Grin

You mean the one without the error bars?

https://curryja.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/stephens2.gif

per - "An update on Earth's energy balance in light of the latest global observations"

Graeme L. Stephens, Juilin Li, Martin Wild, Carol Anne Clayson, Norman Loeb, Seiji Kato, Tristan L’Ecuyer, Paul W. Stackhouse Jr, Matthew Lebsock and Timothy Andrews

https://www.nature.com/articles/ngeo1580

So the surface imbalance is 0.6w/m2 +/-17w/m2.

Now as Hansen says the warming is 0.58w/m2 it is all down in the noise. Wink

Just think all these Koch funded climate scientists. Must be more than the postulated 3%. Wink

Also published in such an esteemed journal. Grin Grin Grin

But I did notice you didn't try to refute it.

It must good to have faith in something like the IPCC that have no error bars in their publications whatsoever. Though they did famously say "the climate system is a coupled non-linear chaotic system, and therefore the long-term prediction of future climate states is not possible."

Funny how people forget that. Wink

Is that the same Koch Bros that donated money to a university near you?

Keep it up lee,  You will be in prison for this if you live long enough.

The denial campaign is designed for one purpose alone: to deceive. Its purpose is to prevent government regulation of CO2 emissions by creating out of whole cloth a monumental illusion: that a controversy exists among climatologists about the basic facts, as well as the climate implications, of global warming. To create the impression in the public mind of such a controversy, the denial campaign deliberately set out to create a vast artificial edifice, a Hollywood set of false facades and roads leading nowhere complete with lab-coated actors mouthing carefully tested and scripted messages. The purpose is to hide from the public the dangers of the conspirators’ principal product, fossil fuels, by creating a soothing alternate reality to cast doubt upon the looming threat of global environmental catastrophe predicted by mainstream climate science. It is fundamentally deceptive in purpose, conception and execution.

He concluded that there is potential criminal exposure for some of those involved.  The First Amendment does not protect fraudulent speech.  However, he notes that there may be an escape outlet via a well documented withdrawal from denial conspiracy, so that, if nothing else, the statute of limitations might begin to run.  Rather than viewing such an escape outlet as a loophole to be closed, he encourages denier individuals and corporations to avail themselves of this escape now in the hopes defections will turn the tide on the climate denial fraud.

Greenland Glaciers Start to Recover as Solar Activity Declines (805)

Adapt 2030
Published on Mar 26, 2019

As the Grand Solar Minimum brings us back to the lowest solar activity in 400 years, we should see more snow cover and glaciers recovering. NASA study shows what was Greenland's largest glacier by volume of loss, is now recovering. Record N. Hemisphere snow totals, massive floods USA destroying 38% of stored grains, recors snow in Sierra Nevada and Rocky Mountains, and record rains in the U.S desert S.W. In my opinion these are solar activity and cosmic ray related events.

Hi Don,
I don't think the climate is so simple that you can say -
ohh - more CO2 therefore we're going to roast.
The Roman and Medieval warming periods had nothing to do with CO2.

I'm hoping that Thorium will be our new power source and that
we can forget fossil fuels forever.

It is recovering. The Glacier is moving back up country.

Did you really expect the glacier, a river of ice, to stop moving?

WMO Statement on the State of the Global Climate in 2018

Foreword

This publication marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the WMO Statement on the State of the Global Climate, which was first issued in 1994. The 2019 edition treating data for 2018 marks sustained international efforts dedicated to reporting on, analysing and understanding the year-to-year variations and long-term trends of a changing climate.
Substantial knowledge has been produced and delivered annually during this period to inform WMO Member States, the United Nations system and decision-makers about the status of the climate system. It complements the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) five-to-seven year reporting cycle in producing updated information for the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change and other climate-related policy frameworks.
Since the Statement was first published, climate science has achieved an unprecedented degree of robustness, providing authoritative evidence of global temperature increase and associated features such as sea-level rise, shrinking sea ice, glacier mass loss and extreme events linked to increasing temperatures, such as heatwaves. There are still areas that need more observations and research, including assessing the contribution of climate change to the behaviour of extreme events and to ocean currents and atmospheric jet streams that can induce extreme cold spells in some places and mild conditions in others.

Key findings of this Statement include the striking consecutive record warming recorded from 2015 through 2018, the continuous upward trend in the atmospheric concentration of the major greenhouse gases, the increasing rate of sea-level rise and the loss of sea ice in both northern and southern polar regions.

The understanding of the linkage between the observed climate variability and change and associated impact on societies has also progressed, thanks to the excellent collaboration of sister agencies within the United Nations system. This current publication includes some of these linkages that have been recorded in recent years, in particular from 2015 to 2018, a period that experienced a strong influence of the El Niño and La Niña phenomena in addition to the long-term climate changes.
Global temperature has risen to close to 1 °C above the pre-industrial period. The time remaining to achieve commitments under the Paris agreement is quickly running out.
This report will inform the United Nations Secretary-General’s 2019 Climate Action Summit. I therefore take this opportunity to thank all the contributors – authors, National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, global climate data and analyses centres, Regional Specialized Meteorological Centres, Regional Climate Centres and the United Nations agencies that have collaborated on this authoritative publication.

2015–2018 were the four warmest years
on record as the long-term warming trend continues

Ocean heat content is at a record high and
global mean sea level continues to rise

Arctic and Antarctic sea-ice extent is
well below average

Extreme weather had an impact on lives and
sustainable development on every continent

Average global temperature reached approximately
1 °C above pre-industrial levels

We are not on track to meet climate change targets
and rein in temperature increases

...

...

...

...

Fossil CO2 emissions have grown almost continuously for the past two centuries (Figure 4),
a trend only interrupted briefly by globally
significant economic downturns.
Emissions to date continued to grow at 1.6% in 2017 and
at a preliminary 2.0% (1.1%–3.4%) per year in
2018.
It is anticipated that a new record high of 36.9 ± 1.8 billion tons of CO2 was reached in 2018.

Net CO2 emissions from land use and land
cover changes were on average 5.0 ± 2.6 billion tons per year over the past decade, with highly uncertain annually resolved estimates.

Together, land-use change and fossil CO2 emissions reached an estimated 41.5 ± 3.0 billion tons of CO2 in 2018.
The continued high emissions have led to high levels of CO2 accumulation in the atmosphere that amounted to 2.82 ± 0.09 ppm in 22018.3

This level of atmospheric CO2 is the result of
the accumulation of only a part of the total CO2
emitted because about 55% of all emissions are removed by CO2 sinks in the oceans and terrestrial vegetation.

Sinks for CO2 are distributed across the hemispheres, on land and oceans, but CO2 fluxes in the tropics (30°S–30°N) are close to carbon
neutral due to the CO2 sink being largely offset
by emissions from deforestation.
Sinks for CO2 in the southern hemisphere are dominated by the removal of CO2 by the oceans,
while the stronger sinks in the northern hemisphere have similar contributions from both land and oceans.

OCEAN HEAT CONTENT

More than 90% of the energy trapped by GHGs goes into the oceans.

Ocean heat content is rising more.

I posted the following recently in the "School Kids Climate Protest" thread. The author, Peter Hadfield, has over 40 videos on Climate Change. Most look at the common myths and misconceptions behind AGW skepticism, including those put forth by Christopher Monckton. Others look at the exaggerated claims of AGW proponents, including Al Gore:

Climate change explained, and the myths debunked

Quote:
There is a lot of inaccurate nonsense about climate science written in blogs and the media, whether exaggerating the effects of climate change or seeking to undermine the science behind it. This series checks the sources of these claims and shows how they have been misinterpreted or deliberately altered.  I have no expertise in climatology, I am a former science journalist, so checking facts is what I do. And I always cite these sources so you can check them for yourselves. Along the way, I explain the real science as relayed by researchers in published papers, in a way that makes it easy to understand.
