PIC INSERT
Feb 27th, 2019 at 2:54pm

Just wondering why in todays world can we not simply drag a PNG JPG etc image into a reply window? I realize I'm a little "technically challenged" but it's not obvious to me how I might drag a png of a graph on my computer into a constructed comment. Why should that be such a problem?

There are memory issues with the server. We would quickly run out of disk space if people could do that. Plus, it would encourage people to be lazy and drop in large image files that slow down the page load.

The editing area is a plain text editor. We could do a MS words style editor, but you would be downloading that every time you make a post, so again, a very slow connection would be the price of a flashy interface. And it would actually cost me money. YaBB is freeware.

Any chance you can give a step by step instruction for a technically challenged individual.
EG: I construct some text, want to insert a small PNG or jpg and then some more text etc.
I hit the image insert button and then what?, to enable me to insert that small image from my own device storage (album/photo whatever)? Is there a way using YABB as is?

Could we not place a limit on size etc. It's just the world is so visual now and the site needs to move along a little in this area I feel. It's probably due don't you think?
Maybe there's a case for blockchain technology and P to P here sharing storage space from the available contributors. Ah the prospects

If you upload a photo using the attachment button, it can only go at the end of your post.

If the photo is already online, use the Code:
[img][/img]

or the image button (top row, third from left, just above the text box). Check the rules, images etc thread on this board for further instructions and discussion.

Thanks FD. Think I've got it.
Turns out the system doesn't enable preview of attachments. If I just hit post it's working.

You can even scale the image in the tags FD posted so it fits on a page.

[img width="xxx" height="xxx" ]image link[ /img]

That breaks stuff so I'll do it in the next post.

This image as the URL shows is 274x208.
...

Let's scale it. I will double it but it can and should be used more to shrink it.
