While i agree that there is no excuse for bashing a man/ woman or childs head into the ground
I woukd also say (and it irks me to agree with turd mc turdface) there are levels of violence that do not justify a gaol sentence.

Assault, by law, is threatening anyone.
You don't even have to touch them, the threat is the key.

Battery, is actual touching, and it gets twisted from this point
Just tapping a cop on the shoulder constitutes assault and battery.

Now, additionally, I have seen cops going for broke on someone because they have the weight of the law behind them.
There are many many cases where cops have well and Truely overstepped the point of justifiable force.
One example comes to mind
The poor bloke tazered to death by cops
" but we only hit him once"
