Aged Care Inquiry
Feb 11th, 2019 at 1:51pm

Just been admitted on TV.

The Problem of Aged Care (resulting in this Inquiry) is the lowering of Quality standards by Private Companies due to the lack of 'Competition' going around.

Now does that mean - the 'Competition' isn't just a higher enough standard in the first place to 'afford' competing?

Or are the Private Companies already now operating have just somehow rigged the system (like money in the pocket of Politics) not to allow more Competition into Australia?

...this kinda sounds like an Immigration Policy

So that's their admittance ?

They're going to have to do better than that

S.I.N.G. Silence is Not Golden

Website LINK

Media reports about care-homes led me to find this website several years ago.  Couldn't believe what I was reading and seeing (many photos back then)

Worse was the blackballing of nurses who spoke up in defence of the inmates at these houses of horror, all tucked away behind pleasant facades

elderly women being stripped naked and placed under cold showers then left cowering in the shower cubicles all night in winter -- and any nurse who attempted to remove them were set-up or bashed

elderly veterans and those simply old, having their jaw broken, arms broken and worse as revealed in graphic photos taken by brave nurses

Rapes, sexual molestation and other indignities imposed on the elderly and helpless, male and female alike

Blackballing by Qld Health Dept. of any whistleblower who initially believed that Qld Health Dept was PAID to protect the elderly and vulnerable from sadistic employees

The complete excoriation of a 40-something, physically handicapped guy whose elderly mother had placed him in one such care home AND had put $400,000 down for his continuing care.  Her son was excoriated.  She was not told of his death for over a week, maybe it was two.  And only $100,000 of her money remained.  The offender was simply moved to a similar care home, I believe

and none of the above had a thing to do with 'quality' standards.  They are another issue entirely, but equally need to be addressed

Get in touch with Exit and similar organisations rather than be dumped in a 'care' home.  Painless euthanasia is the smart way out

The problem is with the Age Care establishments, some are run properly, others are not.

Most State Governments are enabling aged people to remain in their own home and are investing lots of taxpayer dollars to do so.

The PM Morrison has said this:

Quote:
The Federal Government will provide an additional $662 million in funding for aged care and senior Australians in what it is calling a "significant investment".
Key points:

The funds will be spread over a range of aged care facilities, including care for veterans with mental health conditions
Aged Care minister Ken Wyatt said this plan is "outside of what will come from the Royal Commission"
The Government's statement referenced the national aged care quality indicator program, which it says monitors the use of physical restraint

The bulk of the money will go towards two key initiatives, with more than $280 million committed for 10,000 additional home care packages and $320 million allocated for aged care providers to help increase support.

It's a sorry state of affairs - bad reflection on Australian progressive humanist socialist society

"jaw broken, arms broken and worse"

"placed under cold showers then left cowering in the shower cubicles all night in winter"

What sort of people do these types of hideous things to other people?

You never know, do you? one may be living in your street perhaps, an Indian guy with a heavy slipper in his bag

Wasn't this Nazi type behaviour stamped out when Germany lost the war?

Anyone seen tall brick chimneys out the back of these age care homes?

It's almost as if our Government (ALP & NLP) is no longer able to provide an adequate state of affairs in this Country and keep it up to International Standards. Aged Care is a good indicator of this and although I NEVER saw anything like what PZ547 posted, because I worked in Aged Care as an AiN and enjoyed every moment of it!

For starters!
Every Son should take responsibility to care for his Elders.
Every Son should be there in 'the end' and bear the Truth of the Family so that a dying Parent can know and be at peace with their life spent.
There should be more 'males' in Aged Care.

Makes you wonder what's going through the minds of those zombies clinging to their seats Grap. I'll bet it's: "I can't wait for my parents to kick the bucket soon so I can get my inheritance to pay for a trip to Bali"

What about that bloke who killed his parents with a shotgun, was excused of murder and possibly will get half his parents estate

There's a Nazi type euthanasia attitude towards the elderly these days - where did that heinous attitude come from? It's throughout the community, not only in age care homes, I've seen it in hospitals as well

Not much going through those minds... bloody disgraceful...

That story is bizarre, and you are right.. the idea these days seems to be to get rid of the elderly as soon as possible .. I've often wondered about the attitude towards the very old, and that they are often let slip away when they are treatable.  The ex's mother-in-law (we never got on with her but) I still feel she was neglected in a nursing home... she had bed sores and stuff... and she was still alert the day she died enough to say she was afraid ..... I think they just don't care.

Pack of selfish bastards - we haven't done our kids a service bringing them up spoilt with everything we never had.  I'm 70 this year and feeling very activist about many things...

If that is as it seems, that is appalling and if I recognised one of those kids as my own....

The detachment isn't new.  Don't worry Grappler, you doubtless did the best by and for your kids.  And some of the best parents are those who had a rough passage themselves because at least they know what not to do, how not to hurt, etc.

When I was about 20 or so, standing in the seat-free section of the carriages they used to have, a girl in the same section caught my eye.  Which was lucky, because I used to stand with the doors open, facing the outside

I turned to look and she was writhing.  No noise.  She dropped her bag.  Made no attempt to pick it up. So I looked more closely.  Didn't know what was wrong with her, because she had a vacant expression.  Then she began to fold, still jigging around.  The doors on the other side were open too.  And she hit the floor, still writhing

I still didn't know if she was conscious or what.  Didn't want to touch her in case she screamed.  But when she began wriggling across the floor toward the open doors, I grabbed her by her shirt front. After a moment, she tried to get up but her legs weren't holding her.  I ended up holding her up by her shirt for who knows how many minutes

People were just feet away, through the half-glass doors.  Some looked.  Seemed impossible they didn't see what was happening.  Others looked and then put their eyes down to their newspaper

I was desperately trying to hold her up and steady the pair of us.  The train was flying

then we began to slow down and by the time we'd stopped at the station, she simply grabbed her bag and left the train.  Still hadn't said anything.  People at work said it sounded as if she'd had an epileptic seizure

People got up, left the train, no one said anything to me

Some people just don't want to get involved.  Some of them just do not care, although they don't mind observing someone being hurt or humiliated, whatever.  I suspect there have always been people like that.  And they find people who do get involved to be strange peculiar

Back when we had the drought a few years in a row, the communal gardens were left their own devices -- strata management had the auto sprinklers switched off and the hose was removed.  A couple of times a week I'd take our hose out there and spend an hour or two watering to keep things alive

Neighbours of the asian kind walked past, looked at me, then one of them shouted, ' You get paid?  Money? '.  I shook my head and the one who'd yelled out made a disgusted sound in my direction accompanied by a dismissive flip of the hand.  Others walked past with an air of superiority towards the garden waterer, something akin to how Prince Charles might behave toward the common herd.  Yet those with the most haughty attitude were renters and we'd bought our place years before they'd turned up

It's the same attitude towards the elderly, the poor, the maimed, etc. in our society. An attitude of contempt combined with self satisfaction.  Some people can't help being that way, in their genes maybe, or the way they were raised

Our asian neighbours were contemptuous of me for doing something for nothing, for no personal gain.  Their children, when they have them, might be an improvement, or maybe their grandchildren.  Not suggesting they're all like that, just as not all care-home workers are sadists and not everyone will sit and ignore an elderly person clutching at a pole for balance.  We wouldn't.  So -- it balances out.  It just wasn't the old lady's day.  Maybe tomorrow someone will do her a good turn
