Heavy drinking, brain-damaged babies and trouble at school: The tragic reasons behind the growing suicide rate among Aboriginal children

The findings were part of a report conducted by West Australian Coroner Ros Fogliani on Thursday into a cluster of 13 young deaths in the state's Kimberley region.

Among her list of 42 recommendations included screening all infants for brain damage caused by a mother who drank during pregnancy

its tragic isnt it?...

but I find it hard to believe a 5 year old child knows what suicide is..and thats what they intend..

if we believe 5 yr olds are killing themselves deliberately we are in abad way there is a huge difference in suicide and accidental death....

its time the authorities got real.. if a 5 yr old threw herself in front of a train.....yes its suicide and was it due to mother drinking during pregnancy>>>

on the other hand did the child die from drinking alcohol?....or sniffing petrol both things taught to them by adults.....and both lethal to a child...

its too easy saying its suicide...

come on stop shirking your responsibilities get to the real cause...... putting a limit on take away grog sales...

makes me smile.. since when can a 5 to 17 yr old buy take away grog..

Authorities don't care. It is not profitable for them.
Face it....in this day and age, with all the crap surrounding the "stolen gen" years ago, the authorities are to gun shy to do anything for fear of being labeled with one of the hundred labels floating around.

We need to have another stolen gen. Take the kids away from these parents and re-educate them. It will never change until this is done. Let the tears fall and heart strings break. Time to get real or stop reporting it.

... and that's just the adults....... then there is a serious downside ..... still got satellite TV which gives us NT etc ads - one is about FAS in Aboriginals ..... get sick of Mt Isa towing service though..... but the community service ones, always featuring Aboriginals, are about FAS, seat belts, drink driving, domestic violence...... can't see why meself....
